Kylie Concert in Glasgow - getting from Edinburgh Airport to Stadium

brittanyfairies · 11/02/2025 15:23

Hi can anyone help me, I'm flying from abroad to see Kylie on Friday 6th June. Ryanair have just changed my flights which mean I now don't land until 16h15 at Edinburgh airport- I will be arriving with just a small cabin bag. The doors open at 18h30 and I have a seated ticket. For people in the know do you think I will have enough time to get to the concert? There are no flights the day before, this is the only one. Really want to go see Kylie, I have a weekend of music concerts planned.

Where is she playing?

brittanyfairies · 11/02/2025 15:36

I'm such a dimwit - she's playing the OVO Hydro in Glasgow

Quite tight but she won't be on until later right? Best option would be train from Edinburgh to Glasgow and then taxi or train up to Exhibition Centre

Get the X900 Air bus from the airport to Buchanan Bus Station in Glasgow city centre.

Can you change your flight to Glasgow?

Show won't start till a while after 6.30pm. Taxi from Queen Street to venue wil be about 15-20 minutes.
Train from Waverley to Queen street will be 50 minutes, they're every 15-30 minutes.
Shuttle from Airport to Waverley is pretty regular and will be about 30 minutes.

Don't know if a taxi from the airport to the venue in Glasgow would be quicker but it'd be expensive.

I agree that this is a good option, though keep in mind that you will need to get a taxi from Buchanan bus station to the Hydro. There might be other buses going in that direction but as you're tight for time, I wouldn't bother with the faff of waiting for more buses.

Alternative: tram from outside Edinburgh Airport to Haymarket or Waverley train stations. Train to Glasgow Central or Glasgow Queen Street - for example, you can get a 45 min direct train from Haymarket to Glasgow Queen Street. Taxi from outside the train station to the Hydro. If you time it right, the total journey time could be ~90 mins door to door.

StandardLampski · 11/02/2025 15:54

What will you want to do with your bag?
Not sure of the venue rules but assuming you won't be able to bring it in ...
Lockers at train station ?

OverpricedCupcake · 11/02/2025 15:56

Support probably won't start till 7.30 so that gives you an extra hour.

S0upertrooper · 11/02/2025 21:43

I'd get the tram from Edinburgh Airport to Edinburgh Waverly or Haymarket (Haymarket is marginally closer to Glasgow but you might get better choice of Glasgow trains from Waverly)

Train to Glasgow Central (direct train is much quicker)

When you arrive in Glasgow Central, go downstairs to the low-level line and get the train to exhibition centre.

You should be able to plan this journey on trainline.com (maybe not the tram)

Where are you staying overnight? You might not be able to take a cabin size bag into the arena.

Agreed. No need to travel in wrong direction into Edinburgh city centre to get train to Glasgow. That’s gonna waste precious time. Just get airport bus direct to Glasgow. Then a taxi to the Hydro.

chipsandpeas · 11/02/2025 21:54

taxi would be the quickest option but would be approx 120 quid (unless prebooked most of the time)

Yes, do this
and it’s cheapest way by far
you can buy bus ticket in advance

thrifty24 · 12/02/2025 00:18

The airport bus is a good option, I mentioned the train only as a regular commuter on the M8 from Edi - Glas and particularly at rush hour time, it can be horrendous joining the M8 from Ratho junction and even worse coming into Glasgow. I only get the airport bus if it's outwith rush hour. That said, it will be an easier journey so if you are not fussed about getting there early the it is also cheaper

GrandTheftWalrus · 12/02/2025 00:37

If doors open at half 6 then the support won't start till about half 7. With seated tickets it's easier as no one can take your seat but standing you'd need to be there for doors opening.

But train to Glasgow then either a taxi or train from Glasgow central low level. Come out exhibition station. Turn right and go through the smartie tube and you're there.

brittanyfairies · 13/02/2025 07:20

Thanks everyone, I was really worried that I'd have to sell my ticket but I'm going to give it a try. My luggage is just going to be a back pack so shouldn't be a problem. Thanks for all the great advice.

I think there is an over sized cloakroom in the sec instead of the hydro. I'll find out for you.

getahhtmapub · 13/02/2025 10:06

Set times for the Australia Leg are
6:45pm – Inner doors open
7:45pm – Mallrat
8:45pm – KYLIE

So Kylie unlikely to be on before 8pm given doors are similar times.

In my experience of using it almost weekly EDI is a quick to exit airport so expect to be out of the arrivals door about 4.30/45. That gives you 2 clear hours to get to the venue and your seat.

Google maps tells me it's about an hour driving which gives you loads of time. Not sure about public transport tho.

Sevenamcoffee · 13/02/2025 10:13

Bloody Ryanair🙄

Sevenamcoffee · 13/02/2025 10:15

You’ll be ok though OP, enjoy!

This. I'm assuming where you are flying from didn't fly into Glasgow?

Coffeeishot · 13/02/2025 10:34

Ah I read on and there is a bus get that.

Iggii · 13/02/2025 10:35

Please ignore anyone telling you to travel backwards into Edinburgh to then go to Glasgow - you'll get caught up in bad traffic and be much later. Get the coach from the airport straight to Glasgow bus station. Taxi from there.

Iggii · 13/02/2025 10:44

(They're right to think the train is faster if you're already in the city centre, but you're not you're right on the edge so take advantage of that to keep heading west!)

This ^^ but put your luggage in a locker at bus station, they won't let you into venue with it.
