Oxford Hotel recommendations?

I am driving to Oxford with my DS on the 19th of February to attend an open day at Keeble college. Because we are travelling from Cornwall we will need to stay overnight. Can anyone recommend somewhere local with parking please?

have you got parking sorted for the actual visit?

MotherOfFiveCats · 11/02/2025 14:11

I'd recommend the easyHotel in summertown. It has parking, and then get the bus into the city centre (about every five minutes for a 10 minute journey). It's basic, but it does the job for one overnight.

No we haven’t got parking sorted. The intention is to park at the hotel and get a cab to the College. Thanks Motheroffive.

Parking in Oxford is really expensive or non existent so you are better off staying out of it and either getting the bus or train.
There’s the park and rides in Oxford that are very good.

FictionalCharacter · 11/02/2025 14:36

The College might have recommendations too.

Easy Hotels are so cramped and poky, though …

I’d suggest you book the Premier Inn at Westgate (very nice and spacious, also closest to everything you could want or need - shops, restaurants, cocktail bars …) and use the park and ride - which has a bus that will take you right to your hotel.

You can walk to Keble from there very easily.

If you're looking for no frills, Travelodge or Holiday inn at peartree both next to Park and ride. Bus very regular and takes you to right side of Oxford. Leonardo hotel also close by and probably a bit nicer.

Rogerstreasures · 11/02/2025 14:42

Premier Inn Westgate no vacancies ☹️.

Hope you don't mind if I ask - is this an offer holder day or an outreach day as the Keble College website says their open days are only in June and September.

My daughter would very much like to visit but we were waiting until June

awesomepotatoes · 11/02/2025 14:49

I would also recommend staying nearby and then using the park and ride or train as the city centre is not car friendly at all

ColdHenrietta · 11/02/2025 14:50

Park and Ride details here:

It’s a pity about the Premier Inn at Westgate. I honestly don’t think I can recommend the Cowley one - really miserable area with nothing entertaining nearby.)

Second best might be one of the B&Bs on or close to Banbury Road. You’d be in the right area for an easy walk to Keble, and they’ll probably have parking. Although pretty much any of the hotels suggested would be perfectly fine.

(Do not on any account attempt to drive anywhere within the city centre. It will age you by thirty years.)

GameOfJones · 11/02/2025 14:54

I agree with not trying to drive in the city centre. There is a Travelodge right next to the Redbridge park and ride, buses go every 5 to 10 minutes from there to the city centre. There's not much around the hotel, it's just off the ring road but a very short bus journey into Oxford city

Rogerstreasures · 11/02/2025 14:59

*awesomepotatoes Thanks, my mistake it’s an outreach day. It’s for my Grandson. *

Thank you for clarifying, hope you have a good day!

We stayed at the Head of the River when we visited Oxford. Easy walking distance to colleges and shops and walks along the river.

I would love to stay there. I have passed it many times.

Thanks everyone for the information it was very helpful. Hopefully we’re sorted now.

That’s good. I hope the outreach day goes really well.

Oldraver · 11/02/2025 16:51

If your not sorted, there is a Premier Inn at Botley which is a short bus ride into Oxford

queenvelux · 11/02/2025 17:24

There are various hotels at the many Park and Ride places. Much the easiest thing is park, stay at hotel, and get bus in and out. Very convenient and easy.
