Leek and potato
Roasted red pepper
Roasted tomato
Lentil and vegetable
Lentil and bacon

I love soup, in fact I have a pot bubbling away right now, made with onion, leek, celery, bacon and split pea.

Another one who thinks Cullen skink when homemade is food for the God's, but make leek & potato and carrot & parsnip at home.

CraftyNavySeal · 11/02/2025 18:36

Leek and potato
Broccoli and Stilton

You can also make other meals into soup - meat, noodles, pak choi and miso or Asian broth mix makes soup. Curry paste of your choice, chicken, noodles or tagliatelle plus coconut milk and water also makes soup

All of the soup. I absolutely love the stuff! Hugh F-W's parsnip and ginger is good. Dh makes an amazing creamed celeriac soup with cider in it.

That celeriac soup sounds very good 👍 😋

Hard to choose a favourite! Spicy butternut squash or Leek, potato and cheddar!

catin8oots · 11/02/2025 18:47

Mushroom

Funnywonder · 11/02/2025 18:51

Lentil and carrot. It has cumin and coriander in it and is just the thing on a cold day. I started out with a recipe from a Weight Watchers book but it has kind of morphed over the years.

User93993993 · 11/02/2025 19:52

Homemade cream of mushroom, with plenty of garlic! So lovely with olive oil and salt toast!

CatteryCatss · 11/02/2025 19:53

I read your title as “soap”. I was very confused upon reading the first response, which was tomato and basil!

Throughthebluebells · 11/02/2025 19:54

Leek and potato (home grown leeks)
Tomato and mascarpone
Minestrone
Cream of mushroom (lots of mushrooms in the horse fields here)
Chicken noodle (healthier homemade equivalent of the thin packet soup)
French onion

I make croutons to go with the smooth soups and hunky bread for the others.

When I'm out, I would enjoy Cullen Skink, but I have never tried making it at home.

Dobbycraft · 11/02/2025 19:57

Chorizo and butterbean

BelleDeJourRose · 11/02/2025 20:01

Mushroom or celeriac

BaublesAndGlitter · 11/02/2025 20:08

I'm googling cauliflower cheese soup as didn't know that was a thing and I love cauliflower cheese.

My favourite is sweet potato and chilli. DH and I had it when on holiday and made up our own version. It's lovely.

Not a soup but I'd love to find a really nice gumbo recipe. We had some in New Orleans and it was amazing - haven't been able to recreate it since but it would be so warm and filling on a cold day.

longtompot · 11/02/2025 20:39

Hugh FW butternut squash and nut butter soup is delicious and very warming. I usually do it with peanut butter but as my dd had a bit of a reaction to peanuts the last time she had them, I'm going to try with some almond butter.

Burntt · 11/02/2025 20:53

Spicy bean and lentil

Pea and ham

Just made Greek Lemon soup for the first time and my whole family loved it.

Can you share a recipe? I love Greek food and love lemon

DarkDarkNight · 11/02/2025 21:06

It’s not homemade but this sweet potato and chilli soup from Asda is gorgeous. I had a panic they had discontinued it a while ago and would have to try and replicate it. I might give it a go one day, but it’s back on the shelves now.

My fave homemade soups include:
French onion (but I use veggie "beef" stock)
Carrot, sweet potato and red lentils
Thai red curry soup
Dal with loads of veg (best with toor lentils, either sambar style or thicker Rajasthani style)
Leek and potato
Cauliflower and cheddar or blue cheese
Veggie hot and sour (sometimes with egg ribbons)
Cream of mushroom
Minestrone
Cream of tomato or tomato, basil and white beans/chickpeas
Miso broth with udon noodles, mushroom and wakame

@Somehowgirl I did. The link is included in my original post.

Iloveyoubut · 11/02/2025 21:16

I love courgette and asparagus with loads of lemon squeezed in before serving.

notnorman · 11/02/2025 21:19

Boil up then Simmer a whole chicken in chicken stock for an hour ish. Take the meat off the chicken and put the bones in the bin. Then add potato and carrots and simmer for 25 mins.

notnorman · 11/02/2025 21:20

Made tomatoe soup tonight with loads of Stilton stirred in and a few IKEA meatballs 😋
