Are people still using Facebook?

I came off it about five years ago. It was a relief at the time but I have lost touch with my cousins and a few people which is a shame. I was thinking I might reactivate my account. Are people using it as much these days?

A certain age profile certainly is!

IhaveanewTVnow · 11/02/2025 08:37

Yes. But not youngsters as far as I can see.

biscuitsandbooks · 11/02/2025 08:38

I know less than a handful of people who aren't on Facebook. It's still very popular amongst my friends and family.

theDudesmummy · 11/02/2025 08:40

I am an old person and I do! My DS is 15 and is autistic and non-speaking. He uses it a lot to communicate with friends all over the world and generally comment on his life. He loves to see likes on his posts. My stepdaughters are in their 30s and they don't except to put likes on their brother's posts...

Itsfiiiine · 11/02/2025 08:41

I have a business page and use it for professional purposes only, there are several professional groups that are really useful for me. No personal use though.

EVHead · 11/02/2025 08:41

If I deleted it I wouldn’t miss it. I check it a few times of day: all that’s of interest to me there are old photos from my local area.

There are so many ads now, it’s awful. In the beginning it was great for finding old friends/colleagues, but now it’s very dull.

Yes. But not youngsters as far as I can see.

There are loads of teens on Facebook still.

travelmadmum23 · 11/02/2025 08:43

I'm in my thirties - so the first gen to really use Social media and Facebook. I am on it and use it for business use, groups etc but not personal posts or anything. I stopped and changed my usage over the last few years due to the toxicity. Friends/family creating problems because you are away on holiday or have got a nice handbag in a picture etc... not even worth it.

PuppyMonkey · 11/02/2025 08:47

Hardly any of my friends post things these days, it’s all mostly barmy Spotted groups and adverts. If you go on your profile and click Feeds and then choose Friends, you’ll see only the posts from actual friends and they are pretty threadbare for me.

Pigeonqueen · 11/02/2025 08:49

Yes of course. If you have health issues it’s particularly useful as there are so many good health groups. I have Addisons disease and lupus which have very active, large groups on Facebook. There are no other online communities which facilitate this as well as Facebook.

Doggymummar · 11/02/2025 08:52

It's over 70s in my circle. I just use it for the free pages. Any one wants a three seater sofa before it goes to the tip? I have two!

Sinkintotheswamp · 11/02/2025 08:55

Yes. For local news and updates really. Some friends post holiday photos which I like.

They ruined it for day to day friends when the newsfeed stopped being in chronological order. It's a right pigs ear now.

MeanderingGently · 11/02/2025 08:55

Never did, never will.

Moonlightstars · 11/02/2025 08:56

Hardly anyone I know posts apart from a few people over 55. I haven't for years but use it to see stuff that is happening for gigs, theatre and exhibitions. I could move to Instagram but seems an effort. A few teens I know have joined but mainly the ones of the social media prolific types.

RabbitsRock · 11/02/2025 08:57

I use it A LOT ( to be honest, I believe some people have unfriended me due to me posting so much). Facebook is very useful for community information & there are loads of groups relevant to me. I’m 59 but have younger family members & friends on my friends list.

Bjorkdidit · 11/02/2025 08:59

It seems have been massively overtaken with AI rubbish these days meaning that it's really hard to see actual posts from people you know meaning a lot of people just don't bother any more.

What about a Whatsapp group if you want to keep in touch and share photos with relatives you don't see very often?

Needmorelego · 11/02/2025 09:00

I use it daily.
Mostly for local groups and hobby groups.

CeeJay81 · 11/02/2025 09:03

Yes, for my dds scouts group, there's a school parents group that's sometimes useful and occasionally to share local stuff etc do very little personal posts these days

FoxtonFoxton · 11/02/2025 09:04

No. Deactivated it years ago now and only haven't deleted it as I use messenger to keep in touch with a few much older family members. Don't know anyone under 40 on it now. Apparently the village page here is still quite active (and spiteful as ever!). I must say it was useful for horse show information and stuff like that, but I've genuinely not missed it or wanted to go back.

sanityisamyth · 11/02/2025 09:05

Love Facebook, although less keen on the constant reels and irrelevant posts that now seem very common.

I’m in my 50s and have been on it for years. You’d have been 10 when it was launched so not sure you’re the first generation.

Bogginsthe3rd · 11/02/2025 09:09

I think it's mostly boomers now. The younger Gen on other platforms

Changingplace · 11/02/2025 09:09

I’ve still got an account but deleted the app off my phone. There’s too much AI rubbish and adverts now and it’s just irritating.

There were a few groups I enjoyed on there but so much of it was nonsense. I can keep in touch with friends & family without it.

Namechangeforthis88 · 11/02/2025 09:09

Useful for community stuff, events, niche second hand sport stuff. I have quite a few friends in twenties and thirties on it.

EscapeTheCastle · 11/02/2025 09:10

I use it a lot these days as I have joined lots of groups to do with my interests. That way I get a constant feed of interesting posts about subjects I'm interested in. Meanwhile actual friends post less and less.

Only yesterday I had a little cull of friends who are no longer posting at all. (over a period of years) Also a cull of people who don't interact with me in any way any more. Friendships that have drifted naturally over the last 15 years.
I post 5 or 6 times a year little updates on the family and I have maybe 10 or 15 people who take the time to respond in some way.
