Or indeed at any other time?

This is amazing organisation and so much work!…. But freezing sandwiches… ??? Does this work?!

I'm not the poster you quoted but lots of sandwiches freeze absolutely fine. Ham, cheese, sliced chicken or other deli meats etc especially. Things like tomato, egg, tuna etc I would avoid if freezing.

I used to make a big batch, freeze them and then take one out each evening and leave it in the fridge to defrost overnight. I eventually stopped as it's not much more effort to make sandwiches for the next day while I'm cooking dinner in the evening and I can vary the fillings a bit more.

Meals planned for the week and all relevant shopping done. Packed lunch for tomorrow made. Car set to charge overnight. Alarm set.

Enicks86 · 09/02/2025 21:53

Today I've made a load of flapjacks, cakes & cookies. My kids love snacks after school, i find these are healthier and we save money as they are so expensive to buy. I cooked a large batch of Bolegnese for Monday nights supper which will then be turned into lasagne for Tuesday night. Love this as it saves time on cooking after finishing work. Cleaned the whole house, prepped everything for the week & even managed to list a load of things on vinted all whilst my hubby sat and watched the rugby!

I always feel less stressed when I am organised, although I still hate Mondays and the thought of work. Why do weekends go so quickly 😫

pistachiosanscream · 09/02/2025 22:09

I pack lunches for 3 days for the child.
I then prep fruit and vegetables for snacking and whatever meals I plan to make that week. It greatly cuts down on the prep time when cooking in the evening. This isn’t just a Sunday thing, I’ll top up throughout the week as necessary.

usually change kids bed sheets and give their room a tidy, while they have a bath. Will also do laundry then. I’ve lots of uniform so this may to be sorted until later in the week.

over the weekend I return things that are out of place to their correct place so I can start off fresh on a Monday with things in place.

review the menu plan against the calendar to make sure it works.

JerseyCrow · 09/02/2025 22:21

I am with the 'leave it til Monday' crowd. I hate to spend my weekends preparing for the week although I'd like to enjoy the results.

We're on top of the house because we had a big clean but we haven't done a big food shop so are shopping day to day.

I did buy some haribo and crisps for my WFH day if that counts. 😄

I'm noticing a lot of boiled egg snackers here and I'm hoping they WFH or don't eat the stinky eggs in the office. 🤢

LadeedahYadaYada · 10/02/2025 11:23

Fuck all. I sit on my arse - watch tv, go for a run and sit a bit more.

jellyfishperiwinkle · 10/02/2025 11:44

I don't really see the need to prepare for the week. I'd rather poke my eyes than do batch cooking at the weekend and then heat things up from a freezer all week. Just sounds grim to me. I'd rather spend half an hour a day preparing fresh food. The most I do in that regard is make my lunch for work the next day when I'm in the office, while I'm making dinner, or set aside leftovers.

Of course when DDs were in school there were certain things that had to be done at the weekend such as washing uniform. I even do housework during the week now so any weekend chores are minimal. I do go to the gym at the weekend but I don't find that a chore and enjoy it.

mondaytosunday · 10/02/2025 12:09

Nothing at all now I'm on my own, though I have an idea what I need to get done in the week.
When kids were young I just made sure all uniforms/kit was clean and they had done whatever homework needed and if there was a special 'dress as a Norman conqueror' type day (bane of my life then) coming up. So basically ensured they were organised for the week!
I do write lists.

All the super organisation on this thread and still time to post on MN. Very impressive. Grin

Most things don't take a long time to do though, do they? Just short bursts of organisation that helps through the week. It takes a lot less time to be proactive than reactive and so organised people have more time.

You're lucky to have the time/energy during the week! With 3 kids, a full time job and no help from anyone I'm running round like a blue arsed fly most of the time from 6am - 9pm Monday - Friday.

Batch cooking and organising on a Sunday means I might actually get half an hour of downtime during the weekday evenings!

I get that doing loads of cooking at the weekend isn't everyone's idea of fun, but what on earth is grim about eating batch-cooked and/or frozen food? It's lovely to come home to a delicious homemade curry or chilli etc that only needs a blast in the microwave and it's ready! Ditto soup taken to work for lunch.

No-one has answered my egg query. I need to know!

For me, I just find it the whole thing a bit depressing.

Upstartled · 10/02/2025 19:25

Ah well, I think chasing your arse the whole week long and winging it is a mug's game. But maybe it passes for exciting to some?

Cooking dinner each night is just normal isn't it? Hardly "chasing your arse and winging it" Confused

Upstartled · 10/02/2025 19:55

So, I don't know how normal it is. But between work schedules/ clubs/ taxiing kids/ other obligations on an evening - cooking food from scratch each evening would be a complete pita.

I'd much rather nuke a chilli from freezer, put some rice in the pressure cooker and play a game with my youngest/ help ds2 with revision or just sit and read than start chopping onions to make the same meal I made a week ago.

biscuitsandbooks · 10/02/2025 19:57

I mean, each to their own. It obviously works fine for some people.

PP just asked what was wrong with batch cooking and re-heating. I just find the whole idea a bit depressing. No judgement on those who do it.

wipeywipe · 10/02/2025 19:58

Everyone is different though, I hate the idea of eating the same meal as last week & don't do that. I'm p/t & DH is hybrid so between us we can cook something from scratch & still do clubs etc. I'm doing a curry tonight for tmws dinner as it's a busy evening.

Upstartled · 10/02/2025 20:00

How can you hate eating a dinner that you enjoyed the week before?

Upstartled · 10/02/2025 20:00

Because it's just a bit dull and repetitive IMO.

DH can eat the same thing for every meal for weeks. I go through phases so I wouldn't ever pre-cook food as it'd just sit in the freezer for months and take up space.

wipeywipe · 10/02/2025 20:06

Exactly this, is it really so mind blowing? 😆

Apparently so Grin

It has genuinely never occurred to me to batch-cook anything in my life, lol. The only time I ever have leftovers is when I cook pasta as I still can't measure it properly!
