I was watching an old episode of gogglebox - they were watching the final episode of Its a Sin and I instantly started tearing up. I remember when I watched it I couldn’t stop crying for hours - the scene where the main character is in hospital and tells his mum, he just looks like a scared boy. I thought it was a fantastic series but il never watch it again.
Is there a scene in a series that just sticks in your head and that emotion comes straight back as soon as you think about it?

999 with Micheal Fish.

Don't remember that. Was it a Crimewatch sort of thing?

Anyone remember Flambards?

Vaguely remember the show, definitely remember the books - in fact I bought the box set a few years ago to reread, I understand a lot more than I did the first time! It's odd as I've always had a strong interest in early the 20th century, I now wonder if it stems back to Flambards...

I really, really loved Fresh Meat.

It took me back to a coming-of-age part of my life, and was so relatable.

I did absolutely want to lamp Kingsley, though. Every episode. I’d have eaten Josie’s pan of munge any time before giving him the time of day ….

There was a series when I was a kid with Julie covington in Called Rock follies . there was a fire at the venue where they were performing and the follies had to squeeze through a very small window and one of the characters broke her hip trying to escape .

Years and Years. Anne Reid's character made a memorable speech about everything being our fault.

This but the boat scene. Absolutely broke me.

wipeywipe · 08/02/2025 23:36

@duckywoof it was like medical near misses eg someone got struck by a javelin on the school sports field, got their hair stuck in a jacuzzi vent, impaled by something coming through the windscreen whilst driving. It terrified me!

rumblegrumble · 08/02/2025 23:37

I consider Blackadder Goes Forth 'Goodbyee' the finest episode of television ever made. By quite some distance.

I would also vote for Buffy - the entire series is just so incredibly well made, from the character arcs to the music to the metaphor... It's so odd that one of the most perfectly constructed tv series is a high school drama with vampires! But it re-watching a few years back with adult eyes, I was blown away with the craftsmanship.

The final episode of Our Friends In The North
The ‘Red Wedding’ episode of Game Of Thrones
The deaths of Stringer Bell and Omar Little in The Wire
Pretty much all of Succession but especially the scene where Kendall tells his siblings about causing the death of the waiter
The whole of Twin Peaks
The whole of Baby Reindeer
Walter Schweppenstette snapping Martin Rauch’s finger in Deutschland 83

Yes! Didn't even think I'd watched Rock Follies, but I remember that scene.

The missing, now I have DC it just makes me feel sick and I have such anxiety about it happening to us

AustralianCrunch · 08/02/2025 23:39

Broken - the series where Sean Bean played a priest

vitahelp · 08/02/2025 23:39

Strange but true.
Terrified me as a child but I still continued watching it!

Ha ha, yes, it sounds terrifying!

I can’t believe no one else has said the west wing. Such great tv.

The usual things like Breaking Bad and Succession but actually the ones series I often recall is one from years and years ago starring Farrah Fawcett as a mum who killed all her children. I can’t even remember what it was called but I do think of it, so chilling.

Small Sacrifices - the daughter testifies, I remember how tiny FF was about size 4

Clafoutie · 08/02/2025 23:40

Wish Me Luck ( 1988-1990). Back when Sunday night television was really good. I still remember the theme tune. I was completely hooked and still think of it now all these years later.

Lots of moments from Inside Number 9. I do think “12 Days of Christine” might be the greatest bit of tv ever for me - it’s harrowing, touching, keeps you guessing, the characters are really well drawn.. and it’s only half an hour long. I think it’s genius.

Others - This Life, Fleabag, Blackbird.

Squigglesandgiggles · 08/02/2025 23:42

I loved my so called life. I'm fairly sure if I tried to watch it now it would not have the same effect.

I agree. It was ground breaking for its time though.

Oh yes - Fleabag is amazing!

I've just signed up for U because of this thread. It's free and I downloaded the app on my phone

It's got some good dramas including series 2 and 3 of Tenko - strangely, it doesn't have series 1.

JohnTheRevelator · 08/02/2025 23:44

I remember that series. I think it was on in 1975,I would have been 11/12. I was reminded of this series when the pandemic started in early
2020.

Magicmonster · 08/02/2025 23:45

999 from the 1990s. In particular the episodes where the person gets a javellin through the neck or hair stuck in a pool filter!

ACatAsleepInYourHat · 08/02/2025 23:45

Edge of Darkness from 1985, with the late Bob Peck. He gave a one-man masterclass in subtle, emotional, intense acting. All the cast were excellent, in fact, but Peck's performance as the grieving father will always stay with me.

DoloresODonovan · 08/02/2025 23:45

The Sopranos - Whatcha gonna do ??

at the time, head and shoulders above anything else shown ever
