Re: insulin resistance, do Monjaro etc reset the body? Someone upthread who said they now consume more calories but lose more weight now - how?

That was me. I don't know. I don't understand it.

I do have a family history of diabetes and was close to having it myself. I have a friend who has Mounjaro for her diabetes. I assume the diabetes, insulin reistance and the weigh loss injection things are linked but I'm not a scientist/chemist so don't understand how it works.

What I do know is that over Christmas, I ate what I wanted. Not the way I would have eaten pre-weightloss, but definitely a lot more than a weightloss diet. I put off weighing myself after Christmas, not wanting to face a gain. But when I eventually did, 2nd week of January, I'd lost 1/2lb!!!!

@TheAmusedQuail I am hearing this so much & fact friends on jab are no longer afraid of eating out at restaurants, they simply eat whatever they fancy but generally eat less of it. Calories be damned. How liberating!

@Herbologistinwaiting

I did the full Zoe programme very soon after it was launched. It included a continuous glucose monitor which by far the best part of the programme. It was absolutely transformational for me.

The rest of the programme was not new to me, maybe because I'd ready everything they had polished, perhaps because their advice is really not very tailored to me at all but the monitor obviously gives me continuous feedback on my blood sugar which was super helpful.

I’ve thought about doing that but they force you to sign up for a year.

Not really calories be damned. It's the same principle- if they're eating less food then they're eating less calories so it still comes down to calories in versus calories out.

It isn't eating less calories though. I'd estimate I'm eating about 1500 calories a day now. Pre surgery and pre Mounjaro, that was higher than my maintenance calories. It's something to do with the drug being a diabetic drug and insulin resistance.

Calorie counted for 4 months and lost 2 stone. Put it all back on tho as I went back to my old eating habits🙈

Ihatejanuary78 · 12/02/2025 22:04

It’s the evenings I struggle and mid afternoon, I just want to graze on sweet stuff. Nothing to do with hunger and if no sweet stuff I will eat something else at those times!!

It’s like a little devil on my shoulder telling me to eat cos I don’t have the willpower to lose weight anymore so might as well eat the good stuff!

Nutracheck. I weighed my food and reduced my portions. Switched to lighter cheese and ate a lot less of it. Reduced bread intake and ate Warburtons no added sugar bread. I still ate chips, pizza, chocolate and cake but a lot less. I didn't do hard core exercise either, just walked a bit more (to the chip shop and back 😁). I lost just over 2 stone in 7 months.

Nothing like being told you have a non alcoholic fatty liver and gall stones which so far haven't caused any problems to spur you into action.

Hellohelga · 12/02/2025 22:19

Less carbs. Dish up your normal meal then remove half the carbs. Also smaller portions generally.

Lampzade · 12/02/2025 22:20

high fat
low carb
strength training
Callanetics/reformer pilates
Daily walking

internittent fasting

I love those yoghurt tubes. Like Frubes but the cheaper Aldi ones. I freeze them and like them much more like this. Plus they last longer. Only about 40 cals each too.

My fitness pal calorie counting, started at 1200 for 2 weeks to boost them adjusted to my TDEE, no snacking at all, ate at certain times (still do), walking 3 miles a day & weight training.
I can't do high fat Keto diets as have to watch my cholesterol and blood pressure.

Keep foods simple and eat good amounts at mealtimes so you are comfortably full. Lots of vegetables, l limit carbs but don't ban them, just choose healthier ones.
47 and perimenopause and feel so much better.

AngryPrincess · 13/02/2025 23:12

I run every day, (aim for 20 minutes), unless I’m sick or very busy.
I eat 5 fruit & veg a day, (which means, if you eatvthe fruit first, you will probably eat less of any other food).
