Not injections, I don’t qualify.
thank you

I make a batch homemade wholemeal sourdough rolls every couple of weeks. which are gorgeous, & just the 90% cocoa chocolate - a couple of squares of that go a lot further than a bar of Cadburys!

Is that realistic for you, OP?

Gallstones and fatty liver were my wake up call. I was 17.5 st at my heaviest, 16.5 at the time of gallstone diagnosis. I've worked hard to lose the weight and I feel a million times better for it. I cut out all pasta, pizza, cake, crisps, bread, cheese, most dairy (switched to oat milk and dairy free spread). I was strictly eating 1100-1200 calories a day for the first year and have gradually upped to about 1400-1500 now. Very slowly losing my last stone but that's fine as I'm significantly healthier now. Still waiting for the gallbladder to be removed mind you. I'm now just under 11st and wearing size 10 clothing very comfortably. I never thought I'd get to this point and I still feel surprised that size 10 dresses fit and that I can see my collarbone properly for the first time in well over a decade.

AuntieMarys · 08/02/2025 14:18

I've had a broken shoulder so normal gym action impossible...spin, weights etc.
So I've done 16/8....eat at 11 am and at 6.30 pm. Very mindful of what I'm eating..lots of protein and veg. Lost 5 lbs in 3 weeks. Still having the odd glass of wine.
I'm doing 2 legs/ abs workouts a week and getting off my arse. Nothing like what I did before but it's helping

Flicitytricity · 08/02/2025 14:28

I stopped dieting.

I had tried and failed with every diet, so I just cut down. It was easy after the first few days and I lost almost 2 stone, and more importantly kept it off!
I can eat everything, just less of it. And I suppose I'm more mindful of what I'm eating now, as a side benefit.
An example - previously I would have scrambled eggs with two slices of toast, now it's with one. I'd have fish and chips, now I order a pensioners portion.
I eat cake, but half the size slice I used to eat, and probably enjoy it more!
I still eat a full bag of crisps though😁

CryHavoc · 08/02/2025 14:30

I calorie count religiously using MFP, and make sure 40% of my cals every day are protein. And I do CrossFit 4 times a week. It's the eating that does it though - you can't out-train a bad diet.

FinallyHere · 08/02/2025 20:10

What got me started was Gillian Riley's 'alternative to dieting' based on her original work helping people give up smoking

https://www.eatinglessonline.com

Then adopted Mumsnet own low carb high fat "bootcamp" run by BIWI. Complete game changer for me, now down from size 22/24 to 8/10.

Hope you find what works for you.

buybuysellsell · 08/02/2025 21:18

I've lost 12lbs so far with Noom. It has been slow - a pound a week or thereabouts - but pretty manageable.

Disturbia81 · 08/02/2025 21:37

No bulky carbs, lots of meat, veg etc
Lots of walking
Works a treat

Mriscan · 08/02/2025 21:54

@Ghostsmindgate so you have 4 maybe 6 hour Window to eat?

And many meals do eat in that window

Miratea · 08/02/2025 21:56

There’s a show now on YouTube where they followed people who said they didn’t eat that much but were fat and they were found to be lying to themselves about what they were eating and making excuses

Secret Eaters! I've been rewatching it on YouTube as well.

Today I ate at midday (main meal) and then at 5pm a lighter meal. I will probably do the same tomorrow.
But on other days I may eat at 10/11am fruit or slice of toast, light lunch then main meal with dc after school at 5pm. Sometimes I'll just have one meal if we're going out for lunch.

PippaAB · 08/02/2025 22:34

Honestly, I was really stressed and got IBS and the weight fell off.

Then I changed jobs and left the stress...and put it all back on.

Now I'm trying again using MyFitnessPal app. And a digital kitchen scales. Portion sizes are eye opening, some foods are soo high in calories and don't even fill you...it's a good education!
Also using my fitbit which tells me how active to be in the day (target cardio load).

Kettledodger · 08/02/2025 22:38

I was 23stone 11lbs (333lbs/151kgs) September 2023,I'm only 5 feet (152cm) tall. I could hardly walk, huffing and puffing going up stairs etc.

I had given up smoking 6 years previously and had started some bad habits eg eating during the evening. Then I went through menopause and also started comfort eating.

Over the past 17 months I have lost 5stone 11lbs (81lbs/37kgs) by calorie counting, exercising (cardio/pilates/strength) I still have a way to go but I am am not looking for a quick fix. I realised that I needed to change my whole relationship with food. It will probably take me another 2 years to get where I want to be with my weight and thats ok

Constantsoul · 08/02/2025 22:45

Walk 5 miles per day and don’t eat any crap. The weight will soon fall off.

Dieting is generally a short term and often temporary fix. Just get rid of all the bad stuff and have loads of the good stuff in your house. You then don't need to calorie count or watch what volumes you are eating.

Reachforthestars00 · 08/02/2025 22:47

BlondiePortz · 08/02/2025 10:52

Ate healthier and exercised more

^ This. And tracked my food and exercise with Nutracheck app. It's become a way of life, not a quick fix diet.

Also, for the Christmas Dinner question, I give myself 'time off' for holidays, and relax 'the rules' a little.

romanfriendsandcountrywomen · 08/02/2025 22:51

I've lost 2 stone in the past year. So pretty slow- but consistent.
I stopped eating breakfast which means I'm essentially doing a fast between evening meal and lunch at about 12.30.
I stopped all non social drinking- no cheeky glasses of wine after a tough Tuesday!
I cut my evening meal portion size down by about 1/3. No changes to family meals etc but if we're eating pasta and garlic bread I'd have a smaller pasta and no garlic bread.

Puddings on a Sunday still though!

Walked the dog a bit more.

It's been dead easy and after the first few weeks of feeling hungry I've not really noticed and have consistently lost every month.

Pinkpather40 · 08/02/2025 23:13

The six pack revolution 👌

Hixxy1 · 08/02/2025 23:52

Gastric sleeve op, 5 years ago and then Mounjaro jabs. 8 stone gone forever, I hope...

Hey. I started Fast 800 last week. I don't use the app but do use my fitness pal to log. I've bought the fast800 book too. So far I've lost 3.5lbs.
Vert early days but if you fancy joining me send me a PM. I want to lose 2st by end of May.
Good luck.

AmusedMaker · 09/02/2025 08:13

I just ate a bit less.
That’s basically it really.

Ilovelurchers · 09/02/2025 09:16

In my experience, brutal calorie restriction is the only thing that works if you want to lose weight rapidly. I find I have to consume what is really a piss poor amount of food every day if I want to lose weight/keep it off. No breakfast; a lunch which is only really protein and veg, no carbs; and a relatively healthy, smallish dinner. No snacks or calorific drinks, even milk in tea.....

It's not a particularly healthy way to live, but it does make you skinny!

bigfatquiz · 09/02/2025 09:39

Weight watchers. It's not a fast weight loss but it works

Jajajagi · 09/02/2025 09:44

Gradually increased High intensity exercise over a long period of time. I did not calorie count but ate more healthily and increased the amount of protein I ate (meat, nuts, peanut butter etc).

Whoarethoseguys · 09/02/2025 09:44

I've found noting down everything I eat and calorie counting helped. It's easy to overeat without realising but nothing everything down made me think about what I'm eating
I am using the NHS weight loss app at the moment and also sort of intermittent fasting.
I've only just started but I have started to feel better.
