Facebook Friends

I'm quite selective who I accept as a FB friend. My very minimum requirement is that they must be someone who, if I bumped into them when I'm out, I'd stop and have a good catch up with them or go for a coffee.

A close friend of mine appears to accept anyone on FB as a friend and has now got to the stage where they are befriending my close friends, who they have definitely never met (and live the other side of the country).

Personally I don't want "friends" on FB who can potentially see what I get up to when I don't even know them.

Do you have a minimum requirement?

I judge everyone on different merits tbh, just like I do IRL.

But on fb tbh I'm not writing about what I'm doing. It's more about spreading messages.

Do you mean you have close friends who are befriending other close friends of yours?

I think that’s kinda nice actually.

I'm currently having a minor fb friend crisis as I feel the same as you.

Someone I've spoken to on the phone once has added me as a friend on fb, and it's someone I will meet in the future so I don't want to offend them. But I like to keep it to actual friends not acquaintances 😂 I'm riddled with guilt and I've left them hanging for now.

No need for guilt. I tell people very openly it's only closest friends and family I have on SM. No one has taken an offence yet. Sometime I just let requests sit there until they forget about it😂
Like with anything in life, set boundaries and that's it.

Re friends of friends seeing things, you can set things that certain people cannot see posts etc.

I had friend who had 4000 people on fb🤦

Who uses Facebook anymore?

Apparently 3.07 billion active users each month!

I am only fb friends with people I actually know, not friends of friends.
I unfriended a friend who told me she lets one of her real life friends who I have never met share her fb account. No idea why this other person couldn’t set up their own account.

I have sometimes had friend requests from people who I was at school with, but who I didn't really have much to do with even when we were at school. I tend not to accept those.

I use FB mainly for groups for a certain hobby/local groups. That means I get friendly with people I don't meet in real life.

Some I do add as FB friends because I don't mind them reading what I share privately and over the years I actually did meet them. And over the last 5-6 years I decreased my FB usage a lot, DD is not keen on my sharing about her and it's often just to keep in touch with friends living abroad.

Some people send me friend requests who I don't know well so I decline/ignore them.

I have a Bluesky account specifically for my hobby under a very different user name and I am a lot more open with following/who I allow to follow me as I don't share anything of my private life.
