Do you ever WFH in bed?

I have an office job. All I need is my laptop. Yes a big screen helps, but my job is mostly excel and then some word and PowerPoint.

Someday (especially when I have anxiety) I like working in bed and feeling all cosy.

Does anyone else do this?

You know HR works for the company. It is not a union for employees who piss-take.

If you feel you are productive, I am sure you will no shame in turning on your camera and letting your manager know.

I am in fact in the process of working with HR to get rid of a piss taker (also a manager no less). I don't know if this person works from their bed, but I would not be surprised if they did not even get out of it sometimes. It comes with the territory.

Edited

Too funny! I actually work in HR and am professionally qualified with many years of experience so I probably know way better than you do what HR does!!

My head of service requires us to use cameras at all times, so I do. Never a problem! I know I am productive, and so do the managers.

You are mistaken to think that HR only works for the company, because making sure that employees are treated fairly is at the heart of keeping said company out of the doggy doo!

I would love to think you have a 'rebellious' employee who is getting one over on you in your rigidity... Any one of them could easily be working from bed, appearing professional on camera, and wriggling their little warm tootsies under the duvet, and not a single clue would you have...! It could even be your most highly regarded, most productive one and you will never know!

I hope the current process you are working on is transparent and fair. All too often I see managers who have taken personal umbrage with someone for little or no reason, and their determination to get rid of the individual (in many cases because they have failed to manage them!) is clear from the outset.

No, it is to weed out the piss-takers. An unpleasant but necessary role of managers.

Working from bed, like working on your phone while walking the dog, or taking calls from soft play area, add to the perception of low productivity. If this is tolerated, it will send a signal to other employees this is allowed. Therefore, if other employees are not piss-taking, they should see that the piss-takers are being dealt with.

Otherwise, the result is that the employer asks everybody to come into the office, which nobody wants. It is called balancing everyone's interests.

Are you my HoS? You sound v similar. Hi B!!!!!

How would you actually know if someone was working from bed? You can see them on camera, they are apparently in business dress, they are fully responsive to everything you are asking them/contributing to the meeting, and they have a Teams background on so you can't see the headboard?!!

We are going around in circles now, aren't we?

It's more that you're not engaging with questions and comments but just repeating 'working from bed is taking the piss and unproductive' without being willing/able to say why, or how you know that to be the case.

GreyWasp · 09/02/2025 15:43

I wrote a first class thesis from LSE mostly in bed. I don’t work from bed now as I often need to be on camera without notice. I also don’t think it’s good for mental health.

FlyingSoap · 09/02/2025 16:19

Nope but would and have on the sofa. I would never laze about in bed in the day though so that’s probably why. I’d actually feel worse and more anxious if I did.

maddiemookins16mum · 09/02/2025 16:23

Never. I can't get my head round why anyone would do this. Our company would have you back in the office pronto. They don't even like people in any sort of dressing gown/hoodie thing on a Teams call.

I do this when I have anxiety and need to feel safe and secure. I still do the work I need to do using office, word and PowerPoint.

They would if they knew...!

Anyone else really want to try it now after reading this thread?! 😂

Last winter my house had no heating downstairs. The only place I could work was under a duvet. This year I'm downstairs, under a heated blanket.

SpiritOfEcstasy · 09/02/2025 19:59

I have a fold out chair bed and a throw in my office. I often have a little nap in the afternoon 😂 I’m self employed so it’s doesn’t matter too much … but I’m sure if I was employed and wfh I’d spend most of my life in my bed. It’s my happy place 💕

songbird3086 · 09/02/2025 20:01

Omg never! I WFH most of the week and I have to get dressed and semi ready to be able to be productive!

The planet thanks me for turning the heating down and chucking my fluffy dressing gown on over my clothes. Your employer won't have customers on a dead planet.

Angrywife · 09/02/2025 21:10

No never.

LoveLifeBeHappy · 09/02/2025 21:35

No, never. Working from bed isn’t exactly pleasant. How do you even separate your home from work?

I need a dedicated creative space, which is why I have a purpose-built office at home. My setup here is actually better than at work—I’m in the creative industry, so I need my iPad, MacBook, a 32-inch design screen, my music, headphones, and a good view out the window for inspiration. Plus, a hot drink always within reach. Being able to look around and take in my surroundings helps get the creative juices flowing.

You sleep in that bed all night, then work from it all day? That sounds awful. Do you even get changed? Shower? Where do you even have breakfast? Honestly, that just sounds lazy.

I have done it a few times but wouldn't want to get into the habit of it. Seems like the beginning of a downward spiral. I think occasionally if you feel shit then yeah, why not!?

Because you’ve just given the truth of how it is for all the posters who are outraged by having to go into the office!

ThePoshUns · 09/02/2025 22:04

Never! I have to shower and be dressed before I sit to work at my desk in my dining room.

I have my own office. I get up get washed get dressed have breakfast and if I fancy sit up on my bed working at my iPad. It doesn’t really feel like work.

I have to answer emails at all hours anyway so even when I go to bed in the evening I may find myself having to answer emails so it doesn’t make any odds.

JandamiHash · 10/02/2025 02:14

Only if I’m feeling ill. I’d nod off!

We have a desk in our bedroom corner that’s a bit of a family space and I can’t even work there unless there’s a reason I can’t work in my office, because the temptation of bed is too much 😂

I do often have a nap in the day though and if I want to relax I’ll work on my office sofa. If I need to proof read stuff I print it off onto paper I do it on the sofa.

That's fair enough

I just find it hard to separate the two—I need a creative space to work, and my bedroom is strictly for naughty business with my partner. 😏

SillyOldBucket · 10/02/2025 09:30

Never! It's just way too sloppy and slovenly.

I’ve just finished my first meeting of the day, from my bed 😁

Chipsahoy · 10/02/2025 09:52

I don’t see it as unprofessional. Every job is different. During Covid I had my therapy online and my therapist was cosy on his couch with a blanket. What’s wrong with that?
I now see a new therapist in person and he has his slippers on and curls his legs under or sits cross legged on the sofa next to me.
He is still a professional. So why would it be any diffeeent to work from bed or sofa doing an admin role? Or computer based role at least?

LoveLifeBeHappy · 10/02/2025 09:56

Spocyfriedchi · 10/02/2025 09:42

I just can't wrap my head around it, sorry.

Working from home and working in the office should follow the same process, regardless of location.

The same goes for those who say they have a headache and aren’t feeling great, so they won’t come into the office—but can still work from home just fine.

So how do you battle this when working in an office environment?
