What do you dream about?

Boxingshibes · 06/02/2025 21:16

I have vivid dreams but 90% of the time I dream about work. Some completely weird ones but mainly work. Often I can solve a work problem or get a good idea.
Dh thinks I'm weird he never dreams about work.

Most of my dreams are absolutely mental.

Most recently, i was being chased through Machu Picchu by a boulder that had eyes and kept trying to crush me.

Don't think I've ever dreamt about work if I'm honest, unless you count mid shift day-dreaming about annoying colleagues getting fired or hit by a bus.

EmeraldRoulette · 06/02/2025 21:31

@ThatUniqueKoala that sounds a like a film!

I'm an insomniac and don't often dream. But the last two nights I have slept fine and had vivid but boring dreams.

  1. I dreamt that I went to see another flat and it was absolutely enormous. (my current one is very small, so that's not surprising) But as I walked around it, I couldn't find dividing walls between each flat in the building. And the estate agent kept saying to me "but you can't see into next door's flat" - so it was like there were invisible walls? I have no idea what that was about.

  2. I also had a weird dream where I was walking around a square trying to reach the building on the corner - and the building kept disappearing. So I just kept going round and round the square, and I asked people "where is this building" and they were pointing at it and saying "it's right there" and looking at me as if I was nuts. Which I probably am.

Boxingshibes · 06/02/2025 21:33

Bit do you dream about work? Maybe I'm the odd one.

@EmeraldRoulette I did recently rewatch the first three Indiana Jones films, might be related.

oh I think we have our explanation!

@Boxingshibes not usually. There was only one workplace where I recall having related dreams. That was because I had major issues with the chief executive. So one time I dreamt that we all had to take a bunch of exams (not relevant to our work) because he was insisting on it. It was the type of irrational thing he would've done. 🙄

But I don't habitually dream about work.

cakewitch · 06/02/2025 21:42

I dream about work all the time. If I've got a difficult task coming up I can sometimes work out a way of doing it in my dreams. But mostly they degenerate into frenetic nonsense.

JustAboutMuddlingThrough · 06/02/2025 22:04

All sorts of weird random shite! The other day I dreamt I'd given birth and when my Best Friend handed me the baby its head was on back to front. I was like oh it's ok I can just twist it back round. Only when I twisted it back round it's body was then back to front. Another time I dreamt I'd taken my Cat for swimming lessons only he couldn't swim and started drowning so I had to try and fish him out with one of those fishing nets on a stick. Absolutely no idea where that dream came from cos Felix would rather have scratched my eyeballs out, then gone anywhere near water. As soon as i turned the shower or bath tap on he shot out of the bathroom like a rocket. I also seem to have lots of dreams involving hotel swimming pools, hotel breakfasts water slides or rollercoasters.

Boxingshibes · 06/02/2025 22:15

I'm a IT trainer and I constantly dream about the course materials! I want it to stop.
I'd love a flying dream or a dinosaur rampaging dream. I wake up exhausted as I feel like I'm training 24/7

I have always had very weird dreams and can still remember dreams from years ago.

I had a strange one a few years ago. I was standing in a big open field and looked up at the sky to see a plane with Tesco written on the side. It was hurtling down to earth and people were jumping out of it with parachutes. I rushed over to the other side of the field to help rescue the survivors only to find it there weren't humans at the end of each parachute but vials if blood!

Another one which I had one Christmas. My friend and I were rock climbing and I slipped, to save myself I grabbed onto a branch type thing which was sticking out of the side of the rock, it started to snap away from the rockside. I held on for dear life as it started pulling away from the mountain side and I then realised it wasn't a rock/mountain or a branch. I was hanging onto a very large rib and had in fact been 'rock climbing,' inside a giant turkey carcass.

I also experience false awakenings from time to time which scare the life out of me but I recognise they aren't real life now so I shout at myself to wake up.

Yes, I do have a strange brain lol

SpringBunnyHopHop · 06/02/2025 22:27

I often dream about my family.

Scutterbug · 06/02/2025 22:30

Loads of really random dreams but I also have several recurring dreams :

  • I’m looking for a new house. I find one and we move in and keep discovering new rooms.
  • I park my car. When I return it isn’t there. I look all over and eventually call the police and report it stolen.
  • i dream about a specific town. This is a made up place not one I have been to before. Each time I dream about it, I see the familiar buildings from previous dreams and add in new ones. Particularly I am drawn to a nightclub in it and an estate of new houses!
  • I take my dog for a walk and always end up at this house that is old and huge. It belongs to my sibling and they are renovating it. Sometimes it belongs to a friend of mine.
  • I am going somewhere on foot. But my legs won’t work. They are so painful when I try to take steps. I’m in agony.
  • I am going on an excursion. I need to go by train. I can’t work the ticket machine!
ACatAsleepInYourHat · 06/02/2025 22:34

Weirdly - at 67 years old and happily retired - I've started dreaming about my old Grammar School. I mean , I hated the place and couldn't wait to leave, but now I'm dreaming about being worried I'll get on the wrong bus and be late, worrying that I've chosen the wrong O-levels, worrying that I've forgotten my gym kit, worrying about the awful chemistry teacher...

Nearly 50 years since I said goodbye to the bloody place, and it's still haunting me. But why now?!

MedusaAndHerFavourites · 06/02/2025 22:42

Animals feature is almost every dream I have. It's really odd.

Last night three red small scorpions were biting and stinging my ankles.

ofcourseanamechange · 06/02/2025 22:48

A reoccurring dream of mine involves finding new hallways (leading to extra rooms) in my house and realising I have a whole new area of my house I never knew about! I always wake up disappointed

JudgeBread · 06/02/2025 22:52

Mine vary between incredibly dull dreams about doing ordinary things like a food shop or working or going to school for some reason, to long and very in depth but completely bizarre stories, with the odd horrific "wake up screaming and thrashing" nightmare thrown in for funsies. Trains feature a lot more than anything else for some reason.

Always been a vivid dreamer, suffered from night terrors from toddlerhood well into my teens and still occasionally get sleep paralysis. I hope for the boring shopping dreams most nights!

BrieHugger · 06/02/2025 22:59

My most regular dream is being on holiday with loads of people, but it’s the last day and all our rooms are a mess and nobody’s packed and I’m getting annoyed and we’re gonna miss the plane and it’s all stressful. Different location and people each time. I actually find it quite comforting because we do all make it to the airport on time.

EmeraldRoulette · 06/02/2025 23:58

@Boxingshibes are you kicking your legs in your sleep? That's quite common I think.

Good to know I am not the only person who has dreamt about houses with extra rooms. However, for me it's always based in the house of a girl I went to school with. They did have a massive house so that's obviously stayed with me.

What do you dream about?

I dream about work. Missing deadlines. Getting things wrong. Not being able to fix something that is needed in half an hour for a demonstration… in May I will have been retired for 10 years. That is what long term pressure does.

Alex Drake · 07/02/2025 00:07

I dream every night and they are always vivid and I can remember them when I first wake up though the memories of them fade quickly, I really should set a pad and pen on my bedside table and note them down as mostly they're hilarious, I occasionally wake myself up laughing.

I started a new job a few weeks ago and it's a fairly complex finance type job. I can actually 'feel' my brain processing what I've learned as I sleep, like actually working through the bits I haven't fully understood while awake, it's really weird. I kind of semi wake, realise I'm thinking / dreaming about work, try to stop and relax but my brain still works through the spreadsheets of my day. I can't wait to get back to the weird and wacky funny dreams!

9GreenBottles · 07/02/2025 00:10

I frequently dream about travelling, and travelling to do a job although I no longer work. I’ve had several dreams about working for Barack Obama on a project to go into space. We (me, Barack, and Michelle) are very good friends now and I have a guest house permanently set aside for me to use at one of their homes.

Notaflippinclue · 07/02/2025 00:26

When I try to tell my husband my dreams he always does a big exaggerated yawn - what is he trying to tell me?

Youngheartsalittletogetherness · 07/02/2025 00:30

On a mobile grocery van ,got in a row with Liam Gallagher he started throwing stuff at me .
I retaliated and started throwing tins at him.
Woke up and thought wtf was that about.

Nellieinthebarn · 07/02/2025 11:26

The only time I dreamt about work was when I was experiencing burn out, I used to dream all sorts of work related horrific scenarios. Sadly my work did have quite a capacity for horror. I haven't had them since I took early retirement.

RobynRB · 03/10/2025 00:53

I had two dreams repeatedly. Both really weird.... though actually the second one way weirder than the first.

The first one was that I was staying in a hotel that had multiple staircases and I could never find the right one that would lead to my room. Also some of the staircase got narrower as you went up and then you would have to squeeze through a small gap to get through them....

The other one was much scarier.

I was living in a house that was a normal size from the outside, but it had masses of huge rooms inside, I think a lot of it must have been underground. And then there was the staircase...

I remember there was a glass door, kind of like in a hotel and beyond it was a staircase, like you would find in a normal office or inexpensive hotel. It was cold in there... when you went up the stairs there were loads more unexciting rooms. I'm sure I had dreams about those too but I can't remember them.

I never went down the stairs.

If you went across the landing and around a corner there was a massively wide corridor that was sloped upwards. It was carpeted in a really deep pile carpet but it looked really knackered, like no one had slept in this part of the building in years.

I remember I had tried to make a start on renovating this part of the building and decorated one of the rooms. I was thinking about sleeping in the room (don't ask me why) and then I saw a demon appearing on the wall. This sounds really shit I know, but it was genuinely terrifying.

I had this same dream so many times. I haven't had it for years... I hope writing this doesn't set it off again.
