I have a very dear friend who is having a significant birthday on Valentine’s Day. She is a professional in a significant role and single.
She once confided in me that she loves having her birthday on Valentine’s Day, as she loves pink - from soft baby pink right through to hot pinks, red lip stick and roses of all colours). She also loves ‘love’ (I know she has taken the day off work for her birthday and plans to spend it re-reading a special edition of Persuasion she has bought herself). So as she loved all these things, she loved being born on Valentine’s Day, except for one thing. She is a long term single at the moment, and having a birthday on this day means she finds it difficult to have a birthday lunch or dinner, as people usually either have plans with their own partner or spouse or even if she does then restaurants are full of people celebrating Valentine’s Day, so it is a bit awkward. So she usually arranges a birthday lunch with friends or extended on an alternate day.
I know this isn’t uncommon, we all do this if our birthdays fall on weekdays etc, but I would like to get her something nice this year to celebrate the significant milestone and help her enjoy the day. Does anyone have any suggestions? Perhaps a gift they received for Christmas or a birthday they really liked?
