Struggling to wee

I woke up a couple of times last night with a real urge to wee but just fell back to sleep both times. By the morning I was bursting, yet when I got to the loo it took a good few minutes to be able to start peeing, it was so odd! Then it stopped and restarted 3 or 4 times before my bladder was empty. I've had to strain to pee all day. I eventually can empty my bladder but it all feels odd.

Could this be caused by holding wee in too much in the night? I do feel like I'm constantly contracting my pelvic floor muscles and have forgotten how to relax them.

Or is it more likely to be a UTI? I've only ever had one UTI in my life.

I'm a bit stressed about it all, it brings back bad memories of not being able to wee after my csection 3 years ago and having to be sent home with a catheter.

I had a similar difficulty and found it was a rather large fibroid in my uterus that was pressing down on the exit pipe of the bladder. Until I had that treated, I practised using breathing techniques to get the right muscles getting my bladder working. Bearing down apparently weakens your pelvic floor. If you have no pain /UTI then do look into this.

I did find that emptying my bladder when it was half full was easier than when it was bursting. So I learnt to wee every couple hours rather than wait for the urge.

Now I'm back up normal and don't feel any different to before.

It sounds like possibly a UTI. Get a pint glass fill with water and drink the lot. This usually sorts it out for me. Make sure your drinking well from now on. It's usual for people to forget to drink during the day when busy with work/kids/life.

If this doesn't work ( usually I feel the benefit within a few hours) it's off to the GP for you

I thought I would update. I've been drinking plenty and taking D mannose for a few days and that feeling seems to have thankfully gone now.

The following day I did have pain in my tummy and side which had me worried that it was a kidney infection but may have been ovulation pain.

I do still have a weird cold that comes and goes. Last night I was up with a burning chest and tickly throat.

So I'm not sure if it was a UTI in the end or a virus, or both!
