Help with Thailand itinerary

If you had 14/16 nights to spend in Thailand at Easter 2026, me, DH, 2 teens 13 & 15, fly in and out of Bangkok, looking for a combination of city/beach/jungle (for want of a better word!) Where would you go?

I've planned an itinerary, but I don't love it, please help!

So here’s what I would do.
how do you feel about overnight trains?

bangkok for like 3 nights.
Flight and then boat to phi phi island.
come back to krabi and kayak.
Up to khao sok for the natural park and jungle. Hire motorbikes here
Then a night on the big man made lake on khao sok.
Up to surat Thani and overnight train it to Bangkok to end.

We did this and loved it. We wanted a selection of jungle and beaches and cities.

Sounds fabulous, very happy with an overnight train, hoping to go top end of backpacker style!

We did Bangkok, Phuket (just transitted through - have been before and didn’t love it), Khao Lak, Phi Phi, Krabi, Koh Lanta, then back to Bangkok via Phuket and home.

@TokyoSushi we ended up in second class for the train which was still lovely. We were pleasantly surprised. That you’ll need to book yourself and you can go direct to the thai railway.
We did it on the cheap only booking the day before for most things bar the overnight train which we booked a week before. We went in October and the weather was mostly perfect bar a few showers on the odd day.

Changmai, Bangkok and Koh Samui, possibly few days in Koh Tao if you want to snorkel/SCUBA. Do not be tempted to rent motorbikes, it’s one of the most dangerous places in the world for traffic accidents and vast majority of that is motorbike drivers.
