Verbally and physically attacked at bus stop

Yesterday evening, I was waiting for my bus home. I lit a cigarette as I always do (don’t flame me for that, I have been trying to give up). This is a large commuter bus stop (not UK) there is an ashtray and I was standing right beside it, as were others, they were all men.
A man came up to my side, body slammed me and told me to move. So I did and continued my cigarette standing beside others that were smoking. I looked behind to see where he was standing and it was 3m behind and 1m closer to the road.
About a minute later, another body slam and the man shouted “what the fuck did you not understand? I told you to fucking move.” He pulled my cigarette out of my hand and threw it on the ground and then shoved me on my shoulders.
The Glaswegian in me came out and I asked him what the fuck he thought he was doing and shoved him back. Then he jumped into the next bus so I had no time to take a photo.
There were 30 people at this bus stop and not one person said a thing to him. Not even the other men smoking.
Just wanted to rant as it has really scared me, that not one person would do anything when a woman is being attacked in rush hour.

Goodness how scary. I hope you are ok. What on earth is wrong with men?

I'm sorry OP you must be shaken. Unfortunately there are some unstable people around; drugs, alcohol, mental health and just plain aggressive.

MissyPants · 05/02/2025 17:02

Well, everyone is unreasonable for smoking at a bus stop, but as others were doing it also he obviously targeted you as you was a woman. He must hate women or is a bully towards women.
You shouldn't have been exposed to that, and I can't believe none of the other men stepped in. When you say body slam what do you mean? He psychically slammed you against the bus stop? You can request cctv from the bus if you know what bus number he got on and what time.

I'm so sorry this happened to you, how frightening! You must report it to the police.

Boomer55 · 05/02/2025 17:20

It’s legal to smoke there.🤷‍♀️. A pity you couldn’t have reported the pillock. 😒

verycloakanddaggers · 05/02/2025 17:23

You can report anyway as there may be CCTV.

It doesn't matter if you were in the correct or incorrect place, he shouldn't physically assault you.

Sorry this happened to you. Bystanders often freeze tbh, even if fundamentally decent people.

Yes it was legal to smoke where I was smoking. Plus it is a huge bus stop area. The guy looked like a normal commuter, with his laptop bag. I have sent an email to the police.
By body slam, I meant he slammed his whole body into mine.

the others probably thought you didn’t need help after that! However it is pretty rubbish no one stepped in to help.

If you know the bus # and time/stop there may be bus CCTV
