Everyday comforts

Life is feeling fairly challenging at the moment and I'm not feeling that great... but I find comfort in the washing machine just doing its thing, washing and spinning.
So I was wondering what everyday, mundane (& probably random) things people find comfort in when things are a bit rough?

Cleaning
Make pop corn and watch a movie.

A hot mug of tea
putting laundry away (I know loads of people hate this but I find it soothing)
pulling out weeds that are poking through the driveway

BabCNesbitt · 04/02/2025 12:25

A lunchtime nap when I'm WFH.

When I was at my lowest I found great comfort in laying fully stretched out on my couch, eyes closed and listening to music, the thrum of noise outside or simply silence.

Looking at the bulbs poking their noses up in the garden.

Getting up early on a weekend morning to make me and DH a brew to take back to bed . Standing in the kitchen whilst the kettle boils listening to the birds outside with no other noise around. The calm and stillness of early mornings is very soothing.

A cup of tea, an empty quiet house and a cuddle with my cat.....sheer bliss for me

MrsSethGecko · 04/02/2025 13:54

Pork pie.
Tea.
Apocalyptic horror films or novels.

A brew and a biscuit any time of day.

A hot Ribena/Vimto just after getting back from a dog walk.

Seeing lovely dogs on my walk.

Reading for half hour before lights-out in bed, cocooned in my duvet with the dog snoring next to me.

Doing a big wash load and putting it away when I'm in the mood and have time.

The feeling that spring is on the way.

A weightlifting class where I really push myself and ache afterwards.

Getting back into bed for an hour at the weekend after dh has gotten up with the baby. Always makes me do a happy little giggle.

First coffee of the day.

A hot bath after being out for an early morning walk.

A really good book.

Being curled up under a blanket with a roaring fire on a Saturday night with comfort telly on and a glass of wine. Knowing I've got a rest day the next day.

frozendaisy · 04/02/2025 14:09

A hot drink you can just enjoy
A calm, balanced report on radio about a complex topic I am interested in.

loveawineloveacrisp · 04/02/2025 14:24

Sitting with a heated throw over my legs and the dog snuggled up next to me. Bliss.

SpringBunnyHopHop · 04/02/2025 14:25

My (emotional support) dressing gown 😂
Clean house and a cuppa

coxesorangepippin · 04/02/2025 14:26

Falling asleep watching tv

PiastriThePastry · 04/02/2025 14:27

Going for a walk, ideally as far from anyone and anything else as I can manage. Just breathing in the peace and quiet.
Also reading an actual book. I love my kindle and read every day but there’s something so comforting about a proper book. My go to is usually pride and prejudice, but gone with the wind and riders are also very well read.
An ‘everything’ shower followed by hopping into bed made up with fresh sheets, with one of the aforementioned books. Preferably at a very early hour.

Needhelp101 · 04/02/2025 14:27

Discworld books, particularly the Witches ones.

onwardandupwards · 04/02/2025 14:29

A hot mug of tea
My favourite yellow blanket
Watching the washing drying on the line

StripyMug · 04/02/2025 18:14

I love these! Tea definitely is near the top of my list; also sitting in bed reading with the fairy lights on (that one is earmarked for tonight!).
Getting changed out of my work clothes also - generally followed by a cup of tea!

A lunchtime nap when I'm WFH.

I had one in my car in the staff carpark today. Marvellous things, lunchtime naps.
