Responding anonymously to posts on Facebook groups?

This is probably a dumb question but does anyone know if it is possible to respond anonymously to posts on Facebook groups?

I'm not a big Facebook fan and haven't used it for years but recently I found a supportive parents group for my DDs medical condition. I only want to post anonymously to protect DDs privacy. I can see how to start a new post anonymously but I can't seem to respond to posts without my name showing.

No

Yes you can in groups. I am on a few where people use the anon feature to ask questions. I am not sure if it is something the group mod has to set up though.

Yes, if you look at your profile picture when you load up comments, you’ll see a downwards arrow, if you press that you’ll be able to swap to anonymous posting. If the group allows anonymous posting :)

Some groups allow it, some don't. I think the group admin can choose to turn it on/off in the group settings.

I've had responses to a question from 'anonymous member 939' and 'anonymous member 256' so it must be possible but I'm not sure how!

pimplebum · 04/02/2025 08:59

Yes you can post anon there is a button somewhere at the top
If no one knows you in real life on the group what does it matter ?
my friend uses a nick name for her child online and. Change your photo and name to one that does not identify you

I can never seem to do it on android, but I hear apple users say they can
It has to be allowed by each individual group though.
I just set up a seperate profile for anonymous posting

Yes in some groups. I’m always shocked at how careless parents are with their children’s private information and always delete my reply once acknowledged or use anonymous

Helpful 🙄 And actually incorrect as some groups do allow people to post as 'Anonymous Participant'. I think it depends on the group though

I do it on Android.
When you get the reply box up, if the group allows it, there will be a tiny down arrow immediately next to the thumbnail of your profile picture. If you tap on that, you get the option to reply anonymously.

You can post anonymously too if the group allows it - if you go to start a new post, there is a button below the posting box which you can press.

Why don't you just set up another facebook account for that purpose? That’s what I've done for making posts that I don't want linked to my name. I just used a different email and made up a name for a new facebook account. I use the app for one name and Safari for the other.

This answer is correct. Our area Facebook group used to allow anonymous posting but everything descended into a bit of a rant fest so the admin have now turned it off. If the group you're in allows it then when you go to write a post there'll be a box that says "Post anonymously" under it.

Thanks all for the tips. The group allows anonymous posts and I have been able to start a new post fine. If I click on the arrow I don’t get the option to post anonymously when responding to posts but I can see an option to set up another profile so I’ll try that. There does seem to be a few people in the group who managed to respond anonymously so not sure how they did it.
