Do metal bed frames become very noisy over time?

Just that really- looking to redecorate my son’s room and a work friend warned me off metal bed frames but I’m not sure if that’s true or not? Anyone have any experience of these with young (energetic) sons.

also has anyone any recommendations too

Omg! So noisy. We had one in our late 20’s. We couldn’t turn over without waking each other up with the clanking and creaking.we had rags stuffed everywhere in the end, but even that didn’t help.
Divan has been the quietest out of metal, wooden and divan. Handy storage drawers too!

Yes super noisy. And you constantly have to tighten the bolts back up.

Yes! I just got rid of mine as even tightening up made no difference.

I've had metal bed frames for 26 years. No noise and I've not needed to tighten them. I moved once in that time, about five years after I bought the bed so it's been fine for over 20 years

I had one when younger and it was the worst, it's swore me off metal beds for the rest of my days.

Ours started creaking after a few years and it drove me mad at night. I ended up tightening all the screws regularly and added a couple of washers where the joints met. That helped loads. For anyone looking at Metal Beds, check if the frame has crossbars that can loosen over time—they're often the noisy bits.
