My just 16 ds is causing me a lot of worry this week! We have always kept an eye on his internet time but maybe have relaxed a bit since he's got a little older.
He plays online games and chats on discord with other players. Again, all fine and we'd monitored and all good.
This week we discovered that actually one of the people he chats to is older than we realised, dug a bit deeper and found that ds has lied to this person about his age, told them he's in his 20s. Lots of inappropriate chat found. Ds thinks it's fine, talk of love and relationships. But they're over 10 years older.
We have talked about it, he thinks we've breached his trust by reading his messages. We think we're trying to keep him safe online. We've now blocked discord on his phone and can monitor what he's doing at home. But how else can we keep him safe? I don't want to push him away with this as we've always had a good relationship. No one prepared me for this bit of parenthood!
