When did you last have soup

I think about two weeks ago I had an instant soup. They're okay but they are so salty and watery - i.e. in lacking in flavour, not "thin" - that they don't feel like "proper" soup. Can't remember when I last had proper soup.

Think I might make some cock-a-leekie this week.

When did you last have soup?

About 20 minutes ago, with 2 slices of bread. It was Suma vegan Chik'n soup and it was delicious.

Goodweekincoming · 03/02/2025 00:42

Thank you for acting so quickly MN. I am actually shaking after seeing that.

Crazyworldmum · 03/02/2025 00:52

Yesterday , parsnip , chestnut and bacon soup made by myself .

urbanbuddha · 03/02/2025 01:14

Yesterday - red pepper and tomato.

HeddaGarbled · 03/02/2025 01:31

Lunch today but my tummy was rumbling mid-afternoon - it’s not really a proper meal, is it?

Bouledeneige · 03/02/2025 18:48

At least once a week maybe twice. I buy fresh chunky soup from the supermarket - a very easy working at home lunch staple. Love it. I wouldn't eat cup a soup though.

I also make my own from time to time.

mindutopia · 03/02/2025 19:08

Last night we had homemade turkey and mushroom soup (made from the Christmas turkey) for dinner.

But I have miso soup (with ramen) nearly every weekday for lunch, but does that count because it’s just miso with water from the kettle and a few things chucked in at the end.

I make a big batch of soup every week in winter and spring, they go in the freezer and I take one out every day.

I'm currently cycling between butternut and chilli, broccoli Stilton, cauliflower chestnut, and sweet potato.

I love it. Easy and you get a load of veg every lunchtime. DH says he gets bored of it but he's welcome to go to the effort to make something else himself (he won't).

Such an easy cheap and tasty lunch.

Anonym00se · 03/02/2025 19:14

Lunchtime. I had homemade ‘immune boosting’ chicken soup. Also bought a big bag of onions today because I promised DH I’d make French Onion soup this week.

What's with all the soup threads today? Is it a marketing thing?

I was thinking the same! Three soup threads in the last 24 hours!

Surely Pot Noodle is soup, and that’s the country’s most popular hot snack.

I make my own minestrone from frozen veg mix and whatever protein once a week, does us two meals. Every Tuesday and Thursday. Ring the changes with toasties, wraps, pizza baguettes etc.

GoldMoon · 03/02/2025 19:21

I make soup quite often , and we also order it if having something in a cafe , its really filling and one of the cheaper meals on the menu .

MaybeIamJealous · 03/02/2025 19:33

We had a lot of it in the last week or so. Lost power during storm Eowyn for 5 days. I prepped a couple of meals and large pot of soup beforehand as we were forecast to have the worst storm in memory (I'm in Ireland and yep, worst I can remember) , which I then heated on the camping stove. Nutritious, filling, and helped keep us warm.

We generally make it maybe once a month during the colder months and freeze portions, so I might not have it for months, but DS could have it twice a week after sports etc.

stringsoup · 03/02/2025 19:36

Yesterday I made leek and lemon brotachan. Delicious

EwwSprouts · 03/02/2025 19:44

Today! Had some chicken left over and chucked it into a from the ridge chicken & chorizo soup along with mushrooms and spinach to bulk it up for dinner. Tasty.

MelisandeLongfield · 03/02/2025 19:45

Lunchtime. Asparagus.

HamandCheeseSandwich · 03/02/2025 19:46

Today! For dinner, we had chicken and veg made from Sunday roast left overs.

CHEESEY13 · 03/02/2025 19:49

Soup is not a meal. It's Victorian Poorhouse fare, nothing more nothing less.

Of course it is a meal... Protein, veg, carbs etc

No difference to having chicken, carrots, peas and potatoes and gravy on a plate. It's just in a bowl and mixed up a bit more...

Tintackedsea · 03/02/2025 19:52

I have it for lunch everyday at work. I freeze it in big cubes and stick a couple in a soup cup sistema thing then heat it in the microwave. It was broccoli and Stilton today. I usually have several flavours put by.

RobinEllacotStrike · 03/02/2025 19:55

Last week I made a big pot of green lentil lemon & kale soup and ate it for lunch all week.

This week I'm making red lentil, spinach & butternut squash daal.

ICanTellYouMissMe · 03/02/2025 20:07

Today!

I have it almost daily; I make (most often) spicy chicken noodle filled with any veg I have in the fridge.

I've lost five stone eating this way.
