Zip and link matress, anyone got one?

Just that really. I need a new mattress for my super king, the old one is knackered - wasn't much good to start actually.

The man in the bed shop suggested that due to the way my hallway is I'd need a zip and link, as you shouldn't really bend a decent mattress. The price is a bit ouch, but I'm guessing it'll make the whole turning process a lot easier.

Has anyone got one? Are they the best thing since sliced bread? Can a child sleep in the middle on the zip without any bother? (mine still regularly come in at night).

Yes, we have a super king zip and link from Dreams. It’s comfortable but you can feel a bit of a ridge in the middle because your body weight will, naturally, put a dent into the middle of the mattress. They’re basically two singles zipped together. I don’t roll into the middle where DH is not there as you feel the ridge unlike the superking I slept on on holiday where it was all one mattress and was divine.

If I was buying a superking again I wouldn’t buy a zip and link but, like you, it would have been impossible to get the mattress up the stairs without bending it. Most UK houses aren’t big enough to get up stairs amd through the gap.

It’s probably ok for a child to sleep in the middle, certainly big enough.

Thankyou for your thoughts@HumerousHumous ive been waiting to see what others report back on these. Ive also been looking at these mattresses because my parter tosses & turns all night and i thought it would take the movement away on my side with it being two mattresess with a zip in the middle......would you say you can feel movement your side when the other person constantly moves on the other side?

Yes, I absolutely love mine! DH, and I sleep so much better on our own mattresses, but still together.

This company does a proper sprung mattress that comes squashed up in a box so you can fit it upstairs.

We had a zip&link for a while and it was brilliant for what we needed it for - it enabled us to share a kingsize bed without me killing him. But eventually we changed to having separate beds and the zip&link mattresses went into the attic because the central ridge is significant and it only works if you have 2 in the bed, no more and no less.

If it's delivery that's the problem get a mattress that is delivered tightly compressed and rolled. The sales bloke will have been playing down this option due to wanting to sell you a more expensive mattress that would be delivered uncompressed. It is not the case that only uncompressed mattresses are good quality, only that compressed ones don't earn him a commission.

I would recommend this one which is very comfortable and will arrive in a package size that can be navigated around a complex hallway.

We have a zip and link super king size mattress.
Your dc would definitely notice the ridge. But you could get a thick mattress topper that would help minimise it.

Be careful buying a new mattress.
You used to be able to flip a mattress over, which doubled the life of the mattress.
Now many of them can only be rotated.
The base of the mattress is just hard board. Unsleepable on Sad
We paid approximately€1000 on a new mattress and only realised it was unflippable when it was delivered ☹️
It hasn't worn well.
Despite it being bought as a firm mattress it has become saggy with our weight on it.

If I were buying again I would only buy a double sided mattress - it would have to be flippable.
Mattress manufacturers have pulled a fast one imo.
