Facewash that removes makeup recommendations

Is there a holy grail product that removes ALL makeup when you wash at the end of a day (I wear quite a lot of eye makeup!)

Used to use an amazing loreal facial wash but it got discontinued and I've never found one to replace it.

I just want something that will melt off my thick eyeliner and 3+ coats of mascara(!) without having to resort to a secondary cleanse with micellar water or similar! (I'm inherently lazy)

If you wear heavy makeup, what do you recommend?

Eve Lom cleanser and a muslin cloth

Thank you, but its more a face wash I'm after - something I can lather up then rinse off if poss?

Agree with above, or the cheaper but similar alternative in M&S Pure range.

I've just started using the Cerave oil based hydrating face wash and I love it, not drying at all. For normal to very dry skin. Im 47, normal to dry skin.

I much prefer a wash to a cleansing cream which makes me feel greasy and seems to give me spots.

And how is it for removing substantial makeup?

This is absolutely the best thing I've used to remove make up. Even stubborn waterproof mascara. I've used this for years, try other things and they just don't match up.

You can usually get it for around £8 via offer.

Superfacialist cleansing oil.
Dan on fingers gently smooth over lashes and round eyes. No need to rub. I usually stroke underside of lashes with oily fingers like I'm putting on mascara.
I usually leave it for as long as it takes me to brush teeth. Then emulsify with wet fingertips. This is when you go full panda. Wipe of worst with cotton pad then rinse.
Doesnt irritate my eyes at all

I’ve also looked for a face wash that does this! I think the closest I’ve ever found was L’Oréal extraordinary oil cleanser - you rub it into your make up and then it rinses off, but I don’t think it’s sold now. Now I use a cleansing oil that does the same job, followed quickly by a face scrub or a muslin cleanse. I do find I need the two steps to remove allllll traces (I wear Estée Lauder double wear foundation)

I agree with you though… it shouldn’t be a huge ask for a wash that does it all!!

MikeTruk · 02/02/2025 12:58

Ahh yes superfacialist is the oil I use too!

The superdrug B. Creamy foaming cleanser is great and removes even heavy makeup

TiredTuftyTeddy · 02/02/2025 13:06

Liz Earle hot cloth polish......I've been converted!! I was bought some for Christmas and it's been a game changer!!! No messing and removes my eyeliner and mascara easily. Face feels amazing awards too.

Lots of sets on offer at the moment in Boots.

I use the Ordinary glycoside foaming wash. For heavy eye makeup it takes a double cleanse but it’s lovely and doesn’t dry my skin at all.

Cerave hydrating cleanser is brilliant, I do a second wash with it to get stubborn eye make up off

gingercat02 · 02/02/2025 13:10

I use both of these, the oily one at night, to remove makeup and the foaming one in the shower in the morning

Liz Earl cleanse and polish. It's brilliant on waterproof mascara and double wear foundation.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 02/02/2025 13:13

Zeroderm (or any other generic) emollient ointment. Just massage it into your skin and lashes and the heavy duty makeup comes away without a single trace - wipe over your face with a flannel soaked in hot water and then squeezed out.

Your eyes will thank you, your lashes and brows will thank you, your skin, which will be glowing and soft will thank you - and you'll thank me later when you realise this is costing you next to nothing compared to all of the fancy products that don't do the job or leave you looking like you've been crying for a week.

Only time it's not a good idea is where somebody has lash extensions.

overthinkersanonnymus · 02/02/2025 13:13

Sorry! Just saw you want a lather.

You need a pre cleansing oil or balm really for a wash to do its thing.

Demalogica is my fave oil and then cereve foaming cleanser after.

I like liz earl in the bath, and the above in the shower.

I use this and agree it’s fab (and it lathers up, OP) but it contains salicylic acid and I wouldn’t rub that onto my eyes, ouch! I take my eye makeup off first with a wipe.

I mourn the previous Superdrug foaming coconut cleanser which, like all good things, has been discontinued.

The PP is looking for something that lathers like soap and can go over both the eyes and skin at the same time. A facewash.

Not something that needs an extra cloth or a different process.

gerbo · 02/02/2025 13:48

OP, I have to confess, it takes off my couple of layers of mascara, but that's pretty much all I wear.

SleepingisanArt · 02/02/2025 13:55

Dior La Mousse On /Off (foaming cleanser). It is quite pricey but a little goes a very long way and it's very good! Friend uses it as an end of day makeup remover as well as a start the day moment of luxury. She's gone from needing several products to just the one. (I don't wear makeup but I use it everyday and my skin feels amazing.)
