Latest daft cleaning craze

There is no doubt about it social media throws up some bat shit crazy people and ideas.
latest cleaning craze is mopping carpets. yes you read right. not cleaning with a proper cleaner that sucks up the wet afterwards but a mop bucket and bleach
begs three questions for me
1 no matter how you wring the mop out wont you be padding round on wet carpets
2 the bleach will over time with the help of lots of water rot the carpets
3 bleach will fade the carpets

Mopping carpets? 😳 sounds like fun. I think it's easier just not to have carpets.

username299 · 02/02/2025 11:16

Lunacy surely.

Had our carpet a few years bought it because it was bleach cleanable

done this for years it’s no different than getting on your hands and knees with a cloth
but it is a damp mop so not soaking

tend to give it a rub over with then sometime run over it with vax carpet cleaner to rise it off

found using carpet cleaner with carpet cleaner shampoo no matter if I rinse it attracts dirt quicker

think most of carpets are synthetic nylon nowadays so bleach won’t damage then

by wouldn’t put bleach anywhere near a wool carpet

Pulled up my carpets years ago. Laminate flooring and rugs for me

Davros · 02/02/2025 12:07

The rugs still need cleaning. I've been toying with buying a Vax type thing but not sure

Gloriainextremis · 02/02/2025 12:11

I wouldn't be wanting to put bleach on our carpets. Not with three cats getting bleached feet. No thank you.

Bjorkdidit · 02/02/2025 12:15

Some years ago I worked somewhere where the cleaner was a bit bonkers.

One of her eccentricities was that she mopped the carpets. She was ahead of her time.

Also, I assume these carpets are normal household ones and not Flotex, which they do still make, is designed to be mopped and common in nursing homes?

But mopping carpets is no more mad than the trend for putting vacuum lines in it.

TartanMammy · 02/02/2025 12:40

I saw this on TT yesterday too. Madness.

Won't it stink as well, if it doesn't dry out properly. Damp carpet smell 🤢

sixtyandfabulousofcourse · 02/02/2025 14:20

seems ordinary carpet our vax cleaner is a lifesaver well worth what it cost with dogs muddy footed oh etc. But bleach and mop never thank you

@sixtyandfabulousofcourse tell me more about your Vax

its a vax carpet cleaner we had the Bissell before but the vax is better. its so much better than hiring cleaners we keep it out and its ready to use whenever. it also has an attachment for upholstery which works well too

I may commit. We've got a lot of rugs

lastlaughwasme · 04/02/2025 11:49

Gonna stink like wet dog mopping carpets.
Thank god i dont have carpets hate carpets.

Moier · 04/02/2025 11:55

My Granny and my Mum used to do this with Star drops and a bit of bleach.
Didn't have carpet cleaners then. So it's not a new fad at all.
