Am I doing the right thing here?

So…

DS is just turned 3. He is very nervous/shy around people. Takes a while to warm up. He does actually go to nursery 3 days a week! But clubs or if people speak to us at like the park soft play etc he is very shy

We've started swimming as 1) it’s a valuable life skill 2) classes are 30 mins so enough for his attention span

Lesson 2 and he just clinged to me today. Asked to get out but when I popped him on side didn’t get out, came back to me. Wouldn’t really join in much but when I asked should we come back he said yes?

a dad there said his little girl was the same at the start (but her thing was she hated water on her face and would freak out at that) and after a month she’s improved

I don’t want to seem like a pushy parent but want both my kids to get involved in stuff and have extracurricular! Youngest is 1 so too young yet but she is very smiley and loves a boogie so will take her to our nearest dance school for their baby class which is 18m onward :)

But am I doing the right thing? The teacher was very nice and said so many start this way and the fact he’s in the water is good. He may take a bit of time to adjust but will get there

The only issue is that he clinged to you? No kicking and screaming no no no i don't want to gooooo!!!!?

Only lesson 2?

I would keep going...

DC6 is only starting now because he can't stand going his face wet (not a drop 🤣)

Yeah he a few times muttered I want to get out the pool, I want to get in the big pool😂 didn’t do much moves would say no and turn away but his issue is newer people

Long Story short, DH and his brother fell out for a little while so he didn’t see the only cousins he has from like 18 months up until age 2.5y. He wouldn’t go near them first few times and now likes to play with them and be with them! And that took a few visits

So I think maybe a few lessons he’ll warm to the clsss and participate more?

Keep going OP. He's very young and will get used to it. As you mentioned, swimming is a valuable life skill. And he may come to love it. Most kids love swimming once they can do it!

Thanks :) I always worry as he’s shy and social things really get to him but I do want him in an extracurricular , swimming is so valuable and getting used to kids outside of nursery and family is important!
