Hi Everyone who might be interested, a thread for anyone who wants an accountability check-in for their moderate Feb drinking!

OP posts:
Addictforanex · 28/02/2025 18:44

I’m AF tonight, having a couple of 0% beers.

Well done for getting through Damp Feb everyone, on whatever path you took. I know it has been easier for some than others. I love a bit of data and stats, so a round up of my month.

21 days dry
Total units of 52
Average weekly units of 13
On the days I drank, I drank an average of 7.4 units.

I wanted to have at least 3 dry days a week consecutively - done! To average less than 14 units a week - done! To not drink more than 10 units on any one day - not done, broke that twice (and came close another twice). Also to not drink alone at home - done!

When I compare with Feb 2024 (I have been logging all my drinks using the Try Dry App since DJ 2024) then I was dry for 14 days and drank 97 units. So big improvement on last Feb when I wasn’t consciously moderating. Also this is my lowest monthly booze consumption (apart from Dry Januarys) for a year - I’m usually up around 80-120.

A bit eek that I am technically still a “binge drinker” but I’m happy that I have reduced significantly. I also managed a month within the weekly government guidelines on units which I have scoffed at in the past telling myself “no one who drinks, drinks that little” and will aim to do similar in March and beyond, and further reduce the binging.

Damp Feb has taught me I can moderate, but in doing so I do have quite a bit of booze noise going on, my off switch is improving but I would rather have a Sentia or a CBD drink, or poke my own eyes out, than have just ONE glass of wine.

Thanks for your company, wisdom, honesty, vulnerability and encouragement all month. Happy to join a Moderate March thread if there is one!

FUBAR77 · 28/02/2025 18:56

Thanks for your update @Addictforanex its so helpful to benchmark and see how others are doing and improving (also love a bit of data)!!

Im planning to keep posting here through March, helpful to have a place to be held accountable and see how the rest of you are faring. Good luck everyone

evening all and another month done. 18/28 for me, or 64% AF. I haven't counted units but know I've drunk a lot less than I would ordinarily on an evening drinking. Which given where I was in December is a result for me. Yes please to Moderate March. Like others have said, this is such an honest thread that it's v helpful to track progress but also look at as yet unresolved issues (for me!) such as resisting the draw of another glass......

AF Friday tonight for me and DH as we need to be up early and we've both had busy old weeks. And although it would be lovely to open a bottle, it's not bothering me tonight, which is great. I've a glass of AF gin and tonic and am chilling out on the sofa with the dog, and all's well with the world. Hope you all enjoy your evenings too.

socks1107 · 28/02/2025 20:18

I've had some wine tonight but have stuck to four small glasses in the pub rather than the previous five mediums.
It feels better now and certainly does in the morning and in my bank!
Thanks for the accountability and non judgement here

Cattery · 28/02/2025 21:52

I’ve just totted up (I keep a diary) that in January I drank 9 days of the month and the same in February

newme2025 · 28/02/2025 22:38

In bed now - so have done a 50% dry February. It could be better but I’m pleased to have had two weeks off this month. Especially when this time last year I was drinking practically every night.

Buntyforgirls · 01/03/2025 08:04

You have all done so very well, congratulations! I need to try harder this month, you have all inspired me.

ThePoshUns · 01/03/2025 08:34

All went to pot yesterday, went out for a meal in a top restaurant near us. Have had cocktails and wine. Dread to think how many units. Ah well March is a new month. Well done all.

lacksomjam · 01/03/2025 14:57

You have all done really well. I had 12 alcohol free days which was Monday to Thursday other than half term, and am fairly happy with that. Dare not count units, but I’ve at least kept my camomile tea habit going so that’s taken the last glass of wine out each night. Am aiming to keep similar through March which is where I usually slump back into bad habits.

Pinkelefant · 01/03/2025 18:19

Hi to everyone who's still here 🙂
I had 22 dry days in February and 6 damp. That's huge improvement in comparison to last year where I had 14 dry and 15 damp...
I don't really count units but I roughly had around 27 units in total Drunk quite a lot on one occasion.
I kept track of my drinking in my Dry Days App for the whole last year and it's really good to go back and compare.

ThePoshUns · 01/03/2025 18:32

I like the app.Its making me stop and think about my drinking.
I'm bored this evening and ordinarily I'd crack
Open the wine despite a big session yesterday and think ' fuck it'. But thinking about my units and increasing my dry days is rather wait and have a drink when I want to be social.

IGuessIllbetheFirst · 01/03/2025 21:49

Checking in again, really good to read everyone’s updates.

I had a nearly dry February in the end - one successfully moderate evening drinks with family over a meal, but that then led to a Friday night red wine evening and then a dreadful Saturday all day drinking. So I went back to not drinking at all because I don’t have the key to moderation yet and I can’t find my off-switch very easily it seems and I have got too good at hiding how much I am drinking.

I was quite happy with myself during the last week though as I had a terrible work day, impulse-bought a nice bottle of red wine on the way home when shopping for our dinner but talked myself out of it when I got home and managed to resist. My dh was a bit confused but said he is supportive however I go about it & that he can see it is making a difference to my emotional state. I do feel lighter and more positive in general, I think I was slightly depressed before and the waking up with no hangover means I can get things done and that then makes me feel better.

I would like another attempt at tackling moderation again, because I like good wine to go with a nice dinner with family/friends, so up for a Moderate & less Merry March thread as well. Lets see what that brings!

BitOutOfPractice · 01/03/2025 21:53

waking up with no hangover means I can get things done and that then makes me feel better.

this. In spades. I need to remember this.

just got back from a big day out in London with friends. I switched to tea when I got home and I'm taking that as a win

Hedjwitch · 02/03/2025 09:16

100% dry in Jan
64% dry in Feb

Got to get a grip in March to stop the slide.

Buntyforgirls · 03/03/2025 08:16

New week! Good luck all!

FUBAR77 · 03/03/2025 11:51

Fresh week - Fresh chance to do better!

Setting myself the goal to do better than I did in February (which was still great compared to last year) as I know come the summer how acceptable it becomes to drink anytime the sun makes an appearance….need to save units where I can this month

newme2025 · 03/03/2025 18:07

I’m feeling like crap today after a heavy day drinking yesterday. I don’t think I’m able to moderate - once I start there’s no off switch. I’m not going to drink for four days this week at least. The way things are going, I’m also going to have to consider giving up entirely.

newme2025 · 04/03/2025 06:05

This thread seems to have gone quiet so think I’ll hop over to the alcohol board. Maybe see some of you there.

Eatinpeachesonthebeaches · 04/03/2025 12:45

Sounds like a plan.

Hedjwitch · 05/03/2025 21:19

My target for March is to do better than Feb. Have gone back to the zero Guinness. It feels like an alcoholic pint and it fills me up so I don't crave anything else. Tonight and last night have been AF.

ThePoshUns · 05/03/2025 21:38

I wavered and have had half a bottle of rose this evening. Need to be AF on Friday now .

Pinkelefant · 05/03/2025 23:30

I now set myself a target of no more than 8 drinking days a month( last year it was 10)

Addictforanex · 06/03/2025 08:40

So far so good in March, been AF so far. I’ve decided not to drink at home alone as one of my rules and my DP was away at the weekend.

FUBAR77 · 06/03/2025 09:11

@Addictforanex Drinking at home is what I’m trying to quit, did ok in Feb, think I broke it twice (once in a big way back to usual standards 🫠) what are you doing to replace it? I’ve been reading and self care which is working for me up to a point…

Addictforanex · 06/03/2025 09:24

@FUBAR77 not sure I’m doing anything productive tbh 😳 still watching TV, doom scrolling, but just with water or an AF drink instead. That should be my next goal, to do something positive with the time I am giving myself back.
