Do you have fresh flowers in your home?

I've got a couple of bunches of daffodils and tulips around the house.
I don't seem to be too fussed about it other than during January and February as it cheers up the long dark gloomy days.

Yes! Also plant loads of bulbs op 🌷🪻

namechangeGOT · 01/02/2025 10:03

No! I really can't see the point of buying something that'll be dead in a week or so to then have to replace them with something else that will be dead a week or so later! I also don't think they look as good as some people think they do! It's a flower, I think they look nice when they're in the ground attached to the plant! So, I do like gardens!

I also don't see the 'romance' in being bought flowers either! Now, if he bought me the newest high end shampoo or conditioner then I'd be feeling the love, but a rose? Nah!

BigDahliaFan · 01/02/2025 10:04

Have a friend who any time of the year can magic up an amazing looking vase from her garden, evergreen leaves and berries at the moment and full on bouquets in summer.

i find a vase of daffodils cheerful at this time of year.

My dp has a strange but lovely talent for being in Aldi when they bring out massively reduced flowers, so yes, always.

Mine too!

The thing is, I don't really want them, I would never say so as I wouldn't want to hurt his feelings, he enjoys buying them for me and I do appreciate the gesture.

However inside I'm just thinking....clutter!

I prefer my pot plants if I'm honest.

Yes, often buy flowers, nothing over the top, tulips being my favourites and there's such a variety to buy now, with supermarkets having some great selections. Brings me joy, injects colour and sometimes scent into the home.

No, I adore flowers but I like to see them growing where they belong and think it’s a waste of resources to use land for growing things to use for indoor decoration.

Always. Currently Daffs on the kitchen table and in the hearth, and a potted hyacinth on the mantle. I often pick up reduced big fancy bunches in the Co-op on my way home from work, but at this time of year I just love a cheerful daffodil.

Growlybear83 · 01/02/2025 11:51

Yes, I always have a vase of flowers in the living room, and usually the dining room. Once daffodils appear in the shops I usually have some in the kitchen. I generally buy the really cheap flowers from Lidl or Aldi and apart from only costing about £3 a bunch, they last for ages.

Spicykitten · 01/02/2025 11:57

Yes. We buy fresh flowers from Lidl every other week, or so. I put a drop of bleach in the water to make them last longer.

I keep them on my dining room table 😊

CrushingOnRubies · 01/02/2025 12:00

Yes!

Love flowers especially this time of year, brightens my mood and the room up

Last bunch are starting to go over but will put some daffs in the basket next time I go to the shops

My amaryllis is look beautiful now too

mindutopia · 01/02/2025 12:02

Not at this time of year, but in the summer/autumn when I have some to cut, yes.

JKRismyPatronus · 01/02/2025 12:19

During the spring, summer and autumn I cut flowers to have in the house. I grow flowers mainly for the bees but take a few for me.

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 01/02/2025 12:20

Yes. Always.

Thewholeplaceglitters · 01/02/2025 12:22

Yes all year round.

I love a reduced bunch from Waitrose - late on a Friday evening can usually get some really great bargains & they last for ages.

ShadowCalls · 01/02/2025 12:25

No, they should be growing in the ground outside not slowly dying in a vase of water indoors.

BigFatLiar · 01/02/2025 12:29

Usually, I like flowers.

During the winter usually a bunch or two from the supermarket (along with chocs). The rest of the year DH grows flowers on the allotment amongst the veg, so constant supply though he enjoys just watching them grow. We also have flowers on the garden and like to sit amongst them.

GeorgeMichaelsCat · 01/02/2025 12:31

Unfortunately not. One of my cats would use his paw to smack the vase to the floor.

Weepixie · 01/02/2025 12:32

I currently have 2 vases of pink Lilly’s and 2 of small carnations. Also some potted peace Lilly’s.

I may not buy anymore fresh flowers for a few months but then again I may buy them every week for a few months. It just depends if I want some or not.

fiorentina · 01/02/2025 12:33

Yes, I love house plants and try and buy flowers or have bulbs in the house.

RIPVPROG · 01/02/2025 12:34

Always, not expensive curated bouquets , I love it when the £1 a bunch daffs come out. We don't have any at the moment because we're having building work done and everything is everywhere and dusty, so it seems fruitless

SunshineOnASnowyDay · 01/02/2025 12:39

ShadowCalls · 01/02/2025 12:25

Exactly this!!!
My DH learnt very early on I don’t do flowers, so at birthdays/anniversaries he always buys me a living plant instead, most of which I can plant on in the garden. It makes me sad seeing things chopped down and die in a few weeks. I feel the same about Christmas trees.

rewilded · 01/02/2025 12:44

Yes I have two vases of tulips atm and they are lovely.

People have always cut flowers and brought them into the house. I get that flying them in from all over the world or using the land that could have been used for something else but flowers are pretty harmless and bring a lot of joy to people.

Fields are used to grow turf etc far more impact imo

Mittens67 · 01/02/2025 12:53

No. I hate flowers indoors. I love to see them growing in my garden.

Londonmummy66 · 01/02/2025 13:15

Yes - we have an amazing flower stall near the station so buy from there at the weekend. I try to always have a decent sized vase of flowers on the hall table so it makes me smile every time I trudge up and down the stairs. At Christmas and for parties etc I get loads for the table, sitting room and more in the hall.

FreedomandPeace · 01/02/2025 13:18

We have lots of plants but only have fresh flowers when we can cut them from our own garden.
I like freshly cut flowers in the house but don’t like
land being used to grow them
pollution from their transportation
