Been thinking about trying to improve my photography skills and how I’m going to go about it

and just shocked myself at how many photos I have on my roll ?

At a workshop I was at the other day, the lovely guy runjjjgnitndaodnmost professionals these days use camera phones and I thought hmm is that true ?

Do you back your photos up to a cloud or similar? Once they're gone, they're gone...

YouveGotAFastCar · 01/02/2025 08:39

89,640

Lonelycrab · 01/02/2025 08:43

3400 but I’ve only got a 64gb phone.
I back up occasionally to a hard drive via my Mac.

wastingtimeonhere · 01/02/2025 08:49

I used to have about 13k..lol, changed my phone, it only has small capacity internally, but sends to cloud instead. I haven't sussed how to find individual pics. 🙈

Just over 2000. I clear them down to my laptop sometimes. There are about 30 I always keep on my phone.

I have I cloud but it’s full
so I need to delete some stuff
and I don’t want to pay more for more cloud storage

50,000+

They're all backed up to the cloud.

I'd also like to put them onto an external hard drive, but every time I plug my phone in to select and transfer them, the process times out. I assume I need a better computer (and/or fewer photos)... 🤔 🤦‍♀️

Pascha · 01/02/2025 09:22

54, I delete them off the phone every month or so as they are all saved elsewhere. (smug non-iPhone user)

Sinkintotheswamp · 01/02/2025 10:26

I can't find the setting that tells me on Android.

Around 3000 apparently.

2800 are probably of my cats.

The rest are probably of other people's cats.

bunnypenny · 01/02/2025 15:25

101,345 apparently 😂

What do you mean by this? Yes if she deletes them?

If you only have photos on your phone, not transferred elsewhere, and your phone is stolen/dropped off a cliff/destroyed then there is no way you are getting those photos off your phone*
Mine automatically backs up to a cloud at regular intervals. Every now and again DH will transfer photos to our PC so they're stored centrally (and he keeps a back up of our back up drive at his work in case our house burns down...).

*this might not be 100% true if your phone is damaged, some computer whizz might get them back, happy to be corrected.

Ah yea sorry. If stolen, no way back.

But if broken, I've seen people fix the circuit board and get the phone back to a working hard. It's expensive and hard, but there are people who are trained at fixing phones.

I've seen someone repair a phone that was broken in half by a monorail.

crackfoxy · 01/02/2025 15:44

5569.. not as many as I thought

stayathomegardener · 01/02/2025 15:47

January 1st I had 24,900, currently 13,000 because it was taking so long to delete and move into named folders.

I got back to 2018 and should start again.

ghostbusters · 01/02/2025 15:50

@Ardhyie wow, that's impressive! Photos from a phone broken in half!

Backing up photos is definitely a good habit to get in to rather than rely on someone (and having the funds) getting them back once broken.

RedRiverShore5 · 01/02/2025 15:58

About 3000, I use iCloud which I pay 99p a month for and have a backup external hard drive on my iMac which everything backs up to once a week

Lolypoly14 · 01/02/2025 16:01

27609 photos. A lot of them are screenshots of things that I took to remind myself of something or random things at work to remind myself of something, about 6000 of my dog at slightly different angles and about 10000 where I’ve taken lots of photos of the same thing in the hope I’ll get at least 1 decent one.

The sad thing is, I pay Apple about £3 a month to store this crap.

NameChangedOfc · 01/02/2025 16:10

This gives me so much anxiety! I need to keep up with my backups 🙏 Do you have backups, OP?
It is shocking, isn't it, how many pictures we take?!
ETA: I have circa 6000
