Passport renewal

I need to renew my child's passport
It says I can do it online now
But I'm wondering do they still need that counter signature thing? And how does that work if it's all online now?

Just done similar for first. It's really easy. Photo booths and shops now do a code for the photo which you enter on the application site and choose photo.
Signing photos is done over email. It was the easiest and I'm usually a check and send at the post office kinda girl x

Yes, they do need it. You add details of the person who is going to sign it on the online form and they email that person who then verifies the picture.

Ok thank you
I've only been on one holiday abroad before since I had her so I'm not familiar like I used to be with travelling!!

Can I ask as well

Do you need an up to date passport to book the holiday? Or can you book the holiday first?

You can book the holiday it's normally the flights where they ask for a passport number nearer the journey. So you're fine to book but obviously leave plenty of time to get the passport too

I'm booking a package holiday

So I'll be booking the flights at the same time?

So does that mean I can't book the holiday till I get the passport?

No you can usually book it all without a passport. And then nearer the time you get asked to update the passenger manifesto and that's when you need passport numbers.
So go ahead and book especially if it's a good deal right now x

How old is your child? They don't need a counter signature if they're over 12, as long as they can be recognised from the old photo.

We renewed our DD's last year, she was 5 when we got her first passport and 13 when we renewed it. It was done online and we didn't need a counter signature.

She's 11
