SKY Renewal

Our Sky contract has come to and end and they are wanting to put it up to £160!!! We have the Ultimate TV Package, Sky Sports, Multi Room and Broadband - to me this seems ridiculous!
I call them to say we were thinking of cancelling as the price was so high, and I said that the prices they were offering new customers were so much cheaper than what we were paying and she said well yeah thats because its an incentive to get new customers.... you are already a customer!
So my question is - whats my alternative? Is NOW TV any good? We already have Disney and Amazon Prime - but we do need Sky Sports :/
Virgin isnt an option as they done cover our area :(

We ditched Sky TV last year for exactly the same reason. Ridiculous price hikes!

We got an Amazon Firestick (£40?) + BBC iPlayer + Netflix. More than enough choice.

The only thing my DH misses is Rugby League, unless it’s on BBC.

Tell them you're going to cancel, they'll tell you that you can't go back on your decision. Say that's fine, then they put you through to customer retentions. Negotiate with them and you should get somewhere. I got then down from £120ish to £83, no multi room but otherwise the same as your package except ours also includes netflix.

As far as I can tell, Now TV is the Sky channels streamed for a fraction of the cost, so a no brainer as long as you have decent broadband.

We haven't had it for some years but it used to be about £20 a month for both entertainment and movies, although we never paid that because there's always deals available to reduce the cost, usually by at least half.

I suppose if you have someone who needs Sky Sports to function, that will bump up the cost but you could try negotiating. We don't have TV contracts any more because we're fine rotating round the streaming platforms, but I just phoned them up with a no messing 'my contract is running out and I'd like to know what discount you'll offer for me to sign another one, otherwise I'd like to cancel it please' and usually got offered something similarly priced to new customer offers to stay another year/18 months.

It depends what you watch, we use now tv but they don’t update the new films list of shows often, maybe once a month if that, there are some decent shows and films but you might have already seen a lot of them.
You can browse their catalogue without a subscription though and as a PP said there are often deals.

We pay 25 a month for now tv super fibre, we then pay 10.99 for Netflix, occasionally for now tv films and tv and Disney is free with our bank.

To be fair we watch Gold, Dave, Sky Atlantic, U Watch is it called that has Gavin and Stacey on - More 4, E4 - we hardly watch films and we can always find them on Disney and Amazon I guess - we record things to watch back later but to be honest we could just stream them couldn't we!

That's odd, whenever we ring we always get a discount or extra things free like multi room. We got sky Q free last time. How long have you been a customer?

VanessaShanessaJenkins99 · 30/01/2025 19:10

11 years - we were really quite disappointed with her to be honest - if i know that now tv /amazon fire stick is as good ish as sky then ill have the balls to cancel the contract and see if they will come down on the price
