Styes - not one, but two in a week - normal?

Last week my left eye was swollen and tender - finally worked out it was due to a stye inside my lower eyelid. I left it, didn't use make up and was careful with hygiene etc, and it has mostly gone down after a week. A nasty red mark remains, but no pain.

This morning I realised my right eye was tender - it felt the same and after poking around I have found another stye! This time it's inside the top eyelid. It's really painful.

Google tells me it's nothing to worry about, but some websites site poor hygiene, bacteria spreading and hormonal changes as potential causes. I'm 45 and potentially perimenopausal.

Has anyone experienced similar? Thank you

I had a run of styes / blepharitis years ago when I was very stressed. Does that resonate? I was young rather than hormonal. They got better once my stress did.

I also - randomly - sometimes get them via allergies.

You’ve probably accidentally touched your right eye and spread the infection OP. DD used to get them very often - it turned out that she had a condition called blepharitis (basically just flakiness and irritation around her eyes, a bit like dermatitis). The optician gave her special wipes to use for a month which seems to have gotten rid of the issue for good. She hasn’t had a stye in years now

Thanks all! I was diagnosed with blepharitis a few years ago so will get back on the wipes!
