Your Birthday month

Do you like it?
Would you prefer another if you'd had a choice?
A few January born in my family and they categorically say it's the worst!
November babies aren't very keen on theirs either.
They say either side of December is not good as obviously everything is geared towards, and dominated by Christmas.

I'm July, which is fine by me now but I remember not being happy as a teenager as I was obviously one of the youngest in the school year, and the last to do everything - especially the most important driving lessons and passing your test!

I am a mid January birthday, which I always hated growing up as everybody was skint after Christmas and nobody wanted to do anything. I don't mind it so much now that I am older it gives me something to look forward to in January when everything seems a bit meh.

My DH is May and My DS is June, I love their birthdays. We have had a few garden parties for DH/DS for their birthdays as they are only a week apart which is lovely.

YessicaHaircut · 28/01/2025 16:19

Another early January person here and I’m not keen. The only good things about it are I get good gifts (because of the sales!) and January is a miserable month so it’s nice to have one happy thing to focus on.
DS has his birthday in late June and DH in mid July, I envy them! Though DH is always very gloomy if it’s bad weather on his birthday as I guess if you have a summer birthday you expect to be able to do something lovely in the sunshine.

bettybyebye · 28/01/2025 16:20

Mine is in May and I love it. Love spring and the warmer weather and longer days. Although as a teen/at uni I often ended up with an exam on my birthday! DD is July and she loves it. DS and DH are both late November but they like their November birthdays

Christmas week birthday for me, terrible for many obvious reason and always envious of summer birthdays. DH is June. Our little girl was born last August so will be youngest in the year but it really doesn't matter as planning went out the window for possible arrival dates as it took us 3+years to get her.

MaltipooMama · 28/01/2025 16:24

Yes I love my month, it's May so the weather is getting nicer and as far back as I can remember the weather has always been amazing on the day itself. I also don't have to share it with anyone else in my family! (yes my grown up 38 year old self is still happy about this 😂)

BrieAndChilli · 28/01/2025 16:29

I think all months have pros and cons - I wonder what the 'best' month is!!

Jan - everyone skint after xmas and not drinking/eating
Feb - rubbish weather
Mar /Apr often clashes with easter. unpredicatable weather and lots of places not yet open
May - probably ok but as you get older clashes with exam season!
June - maybe the best but you are getting on to be one of the youngest in the year!
July - start of summer hols and everyone always really busy
Aug - everyone away or saving for hols
Sep - not too bad but there is that back to school feeling
Oct - weather getting rubbish again
Nov - overshadowed by halloween
Dec - overshadowed by Christmas

May is great! I often get a bank holiday weekend on or near my birthday.

DS is July and DD will be April-all going well so I'm happy with those. You can't plan these things at all though!

Delatron · 28/01/2025 16:32

Mine’s May and I love it. Getting a little warmer. I’ve had every type of weather on my birthday. Far enough away from Christmas. Not in school holidays.

I find Spring is full of hope and promise and everyone is in a better mood. DH is August and often has awful weather which would disappoint me with a summer birthday..!

Only downside was it clashed with exams occasionally. I did spend my 21st birthday in the library cramming for my degree…

Delatron · 28/01/2025 16:35

Im biased but I think May is best. June onwards you are starting to be affected by being the youngest is the school year.

April a close second but DS is April and it is always in the school holidays and can clash with Easter.

End of April to May is the best!

LyndaSnellsSniff · 28/01/2025 16:41

I'm October and love it. Autumn is my favourite season and I love doing autumnal birthday things. DS2 is mid-January and although he's never said anything, I find it tricky; he's notoriously hard to buy for and having just struggled to think of anything for his Christmas present, it's a challenge to have to think of yet another present.

DH and DS1 are summer birthdays a month apart.

In our family we have many birthdays close together and two on the same day. It gets quite confusing!

Dutchhouse14 · 28/01/2025 17:39

I'm April which is perfect 😊

Scorpion84 · 28/01/2025 17:54

Mine is 30th Oct which I love .

my Kids are summer born

eldest - Aug , youngest july

I did try and avoid another summer baby due to school ( didn't even Occur to me when Ttc first time round ) but recurrent miscarriages and Mother Nature soon put paid to that .

if I could pick I would of wanted my children's birthdays in autumn .

summer bdays can be great for outdoor parties /bbqs but last year it rained on both birthdays .

Mine is Bonfire Night, so I always enjoyed it when I was younger, it felt like the celebrations lasted all day and night.
I’m an old grouch now though and I hate fireworks, because they’ve heard all the time now.

So is mine. I am not from the UK originally and always thought it would be lovely to spend it in the UK. Decades of living in the UK I now hate the fireworks as well.
I always disliked having November birthday as it always dark, wet and gloomy.
I would have loved late spring or June birthday. I am also the only one in the family who doesn’t have a nice birthday month😡. My dad’s was in April, mum’s was in June, brother’s is in September. My kids’ are March and early September. Even xH has a July one.😡
In my country we have “name days” so people often choose to celebrate them instead of birthdays. Well, my name day is on Christmas Eve so no option to moving the celebrations either😡😡.

reluctantbrit · 28/01/2025 17:57

Early December and yes, not keen on it.

Going out is pointless, everything is booked months in advance, busy, expensive and obviously full of Christmas decoration.

As a child my mum worked really hard to ensure I had a birthday without anything remotely Christmas orientated, she had double bad luck, my sister is just a day after me but with an 8 year age gap, she couldn't even do joint parties.

DD and DH have Summer birthdays, so much nicer. Things to do outdoors, even when it rains it is not cold and not a single Christmas decoration in sight.

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 28/01/2025 15:14

Oh I'm a late November birthday and I love it

It kinda suits my vibe, dark aesthetic, kinda moody

November reminds me of wine, jazz and rnb music, of cooking and being cozy

Im not a troll 😄😄 just genuinely think this

My dd is an April baby which for me means spring snd new beginnings, which explains her meaning to me xx

I'm early November and i feel exactly the same as you !

tsmainsqueeze · 28/01/2025 17:59

I'm early November and i feel exactly the same as you !

It's nice isn't it

You've got the kids back at school in September which always feels like a new year to me

The weather changing, Halloween, cosy nights, Christmas on the horizon

The perfect month 😌

BashfulClam · 28/01/2025 18:21

Me and DH are both May and love it. Mine is very often on a bank holiday. I have friends with 13th, 15th and 30th December which are awful.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 28/01/2025 18:23

I don't mind mid November. It's just far enough away from Christmas, and breaks up the long nights before Christmas. Although since having dc it's kind of overshadowed by Halloween, bonfire night and half term.

T4phage · 28/01/2025 18:27

My birthday is today and everyone just ignores it or forgets or whatever. Even dh doesn't bother. Nobody seems to like having a January birthday because nobody can be bothered after Christmas. It's a bit hurtful, although I don't make a fuss.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 28/01/2025 18:30

Very early Feb and I’m happy with it. Snowdrop season! At my first school they made you a ‘crown’ with flowers on your birthday - mine always had snowdrops.

TomatoSandwiches · 28/01/2025 18:31

I don't mind the month but it's a bank holiday so there's not much to do as some places are shut.

It's still better than the many January birthdays in our family though, I try to make it extra special but the weather is just a downer and mood generally lower than before Christmas.

FeetZelet · 28/01/2025 18:33

Another one who’s birthday is today, it’s awful, weather is horrendous, everyone is broke and won’t go for a meal as are on reduced calories etc. In my 20-30’s if you haven’t been paid depending on the day it landed you couldn’t even treat yourself. I now try to go away even for 3 days to avoid it. Missing nothing at home as most years wouldn’t even get a phone call. Have had sunshine, pizza & cake in southern Spain to enjoy to make up for decades of a non event.

NormasArse · 28/01/2025 18:35

Mine is during whitsuntide. Best time to have a birthday, in my opinion!!

Beetrooty · 28/01/2025 18:35

Mine is feb and nearly always falls in half term.
I feel its a good time, long enough from Xmas so that ppl want to meet up and get together.

Some snowdrops and other bulbs etc coming up

Daisychainsandglitter · 28/01/2025 18:38

My b day is late June- wasn't keen on it as a child but it's grown on me.
DD1's bday is late August and she complains bitterly about being one of the youngest in her year. I tell her to wait until she's older and she'll love having a bday in the summer next to a bank holiday!
