HPV - can monogamous partner re-infect?

HPV, what happens if your immune system doesn't clear it up after a few years? Has anyone had the loop procedure for only borderline changes, low-grade dyskaryosis? Or have they had HPV for a few years that doesn't clear up on its own. It seems it is odd that it doesn't clear up after a few years (as 90 per cent do or more) so could a partner be reinfecting although monogamous?

If you have been in a monogamous relationship for 30 years how can it appear and how common is it? Googling tells me that it can lie dormant for many years and is really quite common but they've only just started testing for it via smear tests. Maybe have my answer then.

My Doctor said that men infect women, so why are men not vaccinated? Gay men are apparently vaccinated.

My ds just missed out as he was in the year above

I have been with dh for 32 years and hpv was detected a couple of years ago. It had cleared up the year after though

Yes, you can pass it back and forth forever unfortunately. Only exception being maybe if you abstained from sex for years and you both successfully cleared the infection (not all infections clear, especially the more high risk strains), but most couples are unwilling to do that.

You can pay privately for the vaccination up to age 45, but it is to prevent infection not cure HPV once you have it. Although I think there's some research to suggest it can help kickstart an immune response, so might be worth you both getting vaccinated and wearing condoms during sex for a while?
