Where in Cornwall?

I’m consulting the wisdom of MN because it’s never failed me before.

About to book our summer holiday and I need inspiration from those knowledgable about Cornwall.

We love Mevagissey and have holidayed there before: we enjoy being close to the harbour, with access to lots of cafes, restaurants and little holiday shops.

We’d like to have better access to sandy beaches and long walks (maybe the South West Coast Path) without driving, without sacrificing a short walk into a bustling little village.

Open to anywhere at all in Cornwall. Not that bothered about access to other things: we’ve done the Eden Project a few times for example.

Thank you in advance!

Do you want beaches for swimming (calm sheltered coves) or surfing (bigger swells, less sheltered)? I would guess more sheltered if you want something similar to Mevagissey.

You might try some of the villages around the Lizard Pennisula. There are some sheltered coves and very pretty coastal walking. Would St Ives be too big? The beaches can be lovely and there is a harbour and sheltered swimming.

Thanks for your reply @mindutopia

Definitely sheltered as we’re not surfers (yet?!) I was looking around the Lizard Peninsular this afternoon but I don’t know where to start!

I’ve never been to St. Ives. I guess I’d prefer a village to a town but also don’t mind it being busy.

Fowey?
There’s a lovely little beach with a great shop at Readymoney Cove and easy access to the cliffs above. There’s also what they call the Hall Walk at the other end of the town which takes you up on the cliffs overlooking the docks.
The foot ferry over to Polruan opens up access to the cliffs on that side with walks towards Looe and there’s a ferry which goes to Mevagissy so you could spend some time there without the need to take the car.
A short drive in the car will get you to Charlestown and the beach at Polkerris

We’re from Fowey. Never go back in the summer, it’s heaving. Driving to Polkerris is a no-no too. Single track most of the way, very little parking at the end and lots of people in huge vehicles and no idea how to drive them on country lanes.

I used to live in cornwall and my favourite place is Holywell bay. Followed by fowey.
