And this is not a woman (look it up, folks) who likes being told they are wrong.

An endorsement from one renowned for such honesty and integrity is high praise indeed 😂😂

Seems to have sent the Keir doubters for cover though. Small mercies and all that.

On a wider note, Trump is famously transactional. So he either wants something. Or has been given something.

I quite like Starmer as a person. I don't like Trump at all.

Starmer can't win.
It's either: Trump doesn't like him, he has to go
or: Trump likes him, he has to go.

Yes that was my first thought. What’s he after….? Support for his bonkers Greenland idea?

Ha, ha - you could be right;

Britain has ‘first dibs’ on Greenland, island’s last Danish minister says...

Mr Høyem said that Mr Trump would require approval from Sir Keir Starmer because of an undertaking signed in 1917, the first time the US was interested in acquiring the island.

I’m not sure anyone’s changing their view of Starmer over this; questioning Trump’s motives / integrity / honesty, yes. But not Starmer. Hopefully for him it makes his proposal of Mandleson as our ambassador more likely to be accepted by the US. Mandleson is brighter than the rest of the cabinet put together!

SirChenjins · 26/01/2025 22:33

I’m surprised Trump found time to have a phone call with Starmer, what with ending the war in Ukraine single handedly and building the wall.

Oh wait.

SerendipityJane · 27/01/2025 09:07

I’m not sure anyone’s changing their view of Starmer over this;

I dunno. The absence of all the posters claiming they were "former Labour voters" appear to have scuttled back to the dark recesses with this news.

Meanwhile, in return Starmer praised Trump over Gaza, which is probably worth more than anything else the UK could offer right now.

I don't think Trump personally feels bound by anything. He is a convicted felon, so self evidently dishonest. And with the immunity of the SCOTUS judgement he can break whatever laws he likes.

Much like the Brexiteers who masturbate in his shadow, he considers international treaties beneath him.

I bet Farage is sorry he was carving himself a role as go between in chief.

Strange how everyone is jumping up and down with excitement when Musk criticises Starmer but when Trump praises him, there's silence.

I dunno, Farage is a slippery fucker. He knows that he has to appeal to a lot of people who really aren't keen on Nigel Farage, let alone Trump or Musk. That's if he has any hope of advancing the Reform agenda. Which at the moment seems to be to get people to leave the country one by one as elected MPs.

Peter Mandelson should fit in nicely;

[Labour Peer] Peter Mandelson has said his past remarks that Donald Trump was “a danger to the world” were “ill-judged and wrong” before his expected confirmation as ambassador to the US.

Speaking to Fox News on Wednesday morning, Lord Mandelson said Trump had won “fresh respect” with his “dynamism and energy”.

What do you expect Mandelson to say? I’m sure he absolutely fucking loathes Trump but he can hardly do his job saying that can he? FFS. 🙄

To be fair, if you want someone to deal with Trump then you need to someone as Machiavellian and lacking in integrity as Mandleson ;)
