Shoplifting tag help please!

My MiL (from the continent) sent some clothes for our kids, but one still has the anti shoplifting tag in. I’m quite sure she’s not a shoplifter! She bought it online from a big department store and I guess it came direct from a store and they forgot to take it out.

Any ideas if and how we can remove it please? Am tempted to try brute force but they’re obviously designed to resist that.

If I take it into a shop with similar tags are they likely to be able to remove it, or won’t it work as the tag will be from a different “system”?

thanks!

It should work with any tag remover in a supermarket. Is it a brand known over here? If not I'd just go into a supermarket and ask nicely! (With your full story and maybe an internet search to show it's not available here!)

Thanks, it still has the swing tags on which show it comes from a continental store, it’s their own brand by the looks of it. So it’s clear it wasn’t nicked from a UK store I suppose!

I've done it with a hammer. Go gently and aim for the 'nipple'. It didn't damage the clothes.
(The shop forgot to remove the tag - I didn't shoplift it)

Maybe you can get your MIL to forward you the order confirmation, then at least you’ve got proof of payment if necessary.

Try at a supermarket. DH arrives morning of a friends wedding and realises either the shirt or waistcoat I can’t remember had tag left in. Obviously had bought it!! I told him to go to sainsburys and politely explain the issue and kindly if if they could help and they did!!!

I got one off with a pincer grip and a claw hammer.

I wished it had done its job an triggered the shop alarm so they 'd taken it off the right way, but no ink or anything, it was fine.

No progress here ☹️
We tried Next and TK Max and while the staff tried their tag systems didn’t seem to work on it. Can try our local Morrisons but am assuming it would be the same story there.

Have also tried brute force trying to prise the 2 pieces apart but while we’ve exposed the “pin” between them a few mm we just can’t separate them. Bashing the “nipple” with a hammer had no effect.

Updating the thread in case anyone has any other ideas 🙏

Try Timpsons - they were very helpful when I had a similar problem!

Hoppinggreen · 26/01/2025 18:17

DH got one off with pliers once

smurfmonkey · 26/01/2025 18:34

I got one off using an elastic band, there a videos on YouTube explaining how to do it. It came off fairly easily and no damage to the clothing.

I didn't want to try anything that could damage the tag as supposedly some include ink.

Not a shoplifter by the way, just received an online order with the tag still attached!

Leave it there, and pass it off as an avant-garde button accessory 😀
