I'm trying to stick these icing images to lolly sticks to be the back & side stage screens on dd's birthday cake BUT...

The royal icing will not stick!!

Help? How can I make them stand up (even just long enough for dd to see it will do!)

Tia!

Can you put it in the freezer for half an hour ? Or try melted chocolate and freeze that ? Hope it works out !

lucysmam · 25/01/2025 14:59

I'll hunt for some chocolate. Surprisingly, I don't think we have any 🤔

Do they need to be edible? Can you use glue if not?

Erm, they are edible, but I suppose they don't have to be eaten! I'll rummage and see what glue I have.

I normally have everything, today I don't seem to have the randomness I could do with <sigh>

Use a bit of sellotape on them.

Wishboneswishes · 25/01/2025 15:28

If the images are flimsy, glue them onto card, cut out then use a lolly stick of the back to stand them up.

BaronessBomburst · 25/01/2025 15:30

Is the icing not sticking to the lolly sticks, or the sheets?
You can use a hairdryer on the cold setting to help dry it faster.

AtomHeartMotherOfGod · 25/01/2025 15:35

Sandwich them between the icing and a thin layer of fondant icing (stuck on with water), then use an icing smoother to disguise the edge?

Sugar syrup is very sticky, but may melt fondant if hot?

Dartmoorcheffy · 25/01/2025 15:37

Cornflour and a bit of water or if you've got time go and get cake glue from any big supermarket

Girasoli · 25/01/2025 15:37

You could mix some honey in with the icing to make it stickier?

WeeOrcadian · 25/01/2025 15:55

Would a thick paste of flour & water work? (Clearly I'm not Mary Berry)

PlumpAndDeliciousFatcat · 25/01/2025 16:04

I would personally sacrifice edibility for stability and use glue or tape. Anything food-based which is strong enough to stick is going to taste disgusting.

user1469569516 · 25/01/2025 16:32

I think the lolly sticks are too heavy.
Could you use cocktail sticks instead?

lucysmam · 25/01/2025 16:33

I do have cocktail sticks! And card/Pritt stick as a last resort.

Please share a photograph when it's finished!

lucysmam · 26/01/2025 19:29

@BaronessBomburst I ended up erecting scaffolding & just propping the images against it 🤣.

Lucy Fest 18, including mini All Points East Ethel Cain, with as accurate as I could get them facial tattoos, and the tall people right at the front, in front of the tiny people (we're always behind someone taller 🙄🤣).
