Newcastle to Buxton

We're heading to Buxton for a week next month and would love suggestions of places to stop to break up the journey. We have NT passes and often find one en route to stop for something to eat and a leg stretch. Or anywhere interesting to.stop.

I have a chronic condition and would struggle to do the 3.5 hour drive without a stop even as a passenger before any snarky comments that it's not a long drive!

TIA 😊

Somewhere like Ripon? Not too far off route , pretty, cathedral and lunch places

Fountains Abbey?
we stopped off for a ‘leg stretch’ on the way back from Whitby last year and spent 5 hours there!

Fountains Abbey has a nice cafe next to the main car park. It's a decent walk downhill (and then back up again) down to the Abbey and Fountains Hall

No suggestion on where to stop but i love the Old Sun Inn there. Old pub, smashing food!

Thanks all for the suggestions. We'll definitely do Fountains Abbey one way. Any ideas for the return trip?
