Freezing unopened, raw (pre-packed) sausages one day after use-by date? Safe to defrost later on and eat?

Bought sausages, the use-by date wasn't printed in the box correctly (half in box, half out on darker packaging, so hard to see). Thought the best before was 25th Jan but just double-checked with the magnifying glass and the use-by date was yesterday!
Can't eat them today so just shoved them in the freezer. They're completely sealed in packaging.
Will they be safe to eat if we defrost and use the same day some time in the next week?
Or, failing that, rather than waste them, would it be okay to defrost, cook and give to the dogs?
Really reluctant to just bin them! We hate food waste!
I wouldn't normally be so anxious about use-by dates but I am when it comes to pork (and chicken)!
Thanks

I would. But you'll get people saying don't mess with pork!

ParisFrance · 24/01/2025 20:03

You’ll be fine, just ensure they are cooked through.

I googled:

"After the use-by date, don't eat, cook or freeze your food. And remember, you cannot smell the bacteria which make you ill." I wouldn't give it to my dog, either.

No use by means exactly that , best before would be fine.

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 24/01/2025 20:12

I would and I have.

Boredlass · 24/01/2025 20:13

Of course it’s fine. I’ve ate far worse and survived

Talipesmum · 24/01/2025 20:15

I would with sausages, and probably have. Don’t know if that’s the right advice though!

SquigglePigs · 24/01/2025 20:16

I wouldn't risk it. Although I dislike food waste, I dislike food poisoning even more!

QueSyrahSyrah · 24/01/2025 20:23

Use by yesterday, I would 100% freeze them today, so long as they look and smell fine when eventually opened and are well cooked through. There's a reason millions of tons of perfectly edible food goes to landfill every year and it's bloody use by dates.

We often buy something on a yellow sticker with intention to eat it same day but don't end up doing so. Will always eat the next day or freeze the next day if freezable.

EwwSprouts · 24/01/2025 20:26

Heck yes.

SheilaFentiman · 24/01/2025 21:09

Yes, I would.

anon2022anon · 24/01/2025 21:12

Wouldn't think twice about it, yes. Sausages are so highly processed they'll be fine for days more even without freezing (no shade, big sausage fan here).

gamerchick · 24/01/2025 21:14

I would with sausages.. they're so processed, there's probably not a lot of good meat in them.

Agree with this, I have eaten bacon 2 months past the use by date and it was fine.

AlbertCamusflage · 24/01/2025 21:20

It is the sort of thing that I do very often. I imagine it would be fine.

Cocothecoconut · 24/01/2025 21:22

Yes
have eaten sausages at least few days if not more over date and not a glimmer of illness
