To be pissed off at this lady on Vinted!?

As some of you may know, Metanium Nappy Rash Cream has sadly been discontinued. Apparently due to difficulties the company have in sourcing a certain ingredient, therefore making it hard for them to continue to produce it.

I know what MN can be like :) so before any one jumps in with 'well if you change your baby regularly enough, you won't need the cream' sort of bs, I change my baby very regularly but he has very sensitive and seemingly extra delicate, dry and eczema prone skin so every so often (and despite washing him after a poop instead of using wipes) he can get sore. Metanium worked wonders, it was my go-to and was highly recommended by doctors.

Any way, about a week ago (this has just been playing on my mind and I need to rant), I went on Vinted to see if anybody was selling any new tubes and there she was, a lady selling ONE TUBE (previously worth around £4) for £60. SIXTY POUNDS.

I get people cashing on in discontinued luxuries such as biscuits/chocolates or whatever. But seriously, I'm assuming this lady (judging by her other listings) is a mother of young children, who is cashing in on what some mothers genuinely see as a necessity for their babies wellbeing.

Any way, I messaged this lady asking how much (to see if she would miraculously say £4 or £5) but she replied '£50 is the lowest I can go'. I said how I felt about it and she replied words the effect that 'desperate mums will pay'.

We argued a bit and that was that.

But she is right, desperate mums probably would pay such price if their baby is bleeding from their genital area. It's fucking awful to be that greedy over a NAPPY RASH CREAM.

I'm still so fuming and needed to get it off my chest!!!

I have mixed opinions on this really. Is she selling lots of other products at inflated rates? In which case I think it's immoral needs reporting to the website.

If however she happened to have a spare one that was not intentionally held back to sell on then she is not doing much wrong. It's called supply and demand. All you can do is appeal to her common sense that if it's not sold at £60 then it's not worth £60.

Arguing with her was not a great idea. She is hardly going to be inclined to further reduce the price after that.

For all we know she is struggling financially and badly needs the money.

Yes to soudacream and vaseline too and lots of time during the day with no nappy - we have wooden flooring so I just cleaned up the wee. It really helped keep nappy rash at bay. Teething also brings it on in some babies. £60!!! Report to vinted.

Weleda calendula cream is actually better

I agree with this.

Report. And get sudocrem. It does work, maybe not as fast as metanium but it will work.

I hate hate HATE people who cash in like this. Its not a folly or a toy. It's something a lot of parents are reliant on for their babies skin.

Lovemyones · 29/01/2025 13:42

Not well known but I have no idea why but Bennett's baby bum creme is the absolute best, try that I found it amazing!

Heartbreaktuna · 29/01/2025 13:45

Don't blame you for being angry! The yellow stuff is like magic. There are no other nappy rash products with the same active ingredients (Titanium dioxide, titanium peroxide, titanium salicylate) on the market. Literally nothing can compare.

BilboBlaggin · 24/01/2025 12:37

Some people are fucking greedy OP, and those that play on the desperation of others are the lowest of the low. Hopefully one day karma will bite her on the arse.

It might do literally one day. I had kind of nappy rash symptoms after having er, digestive disturbance, while out on a long walk with DH. Sudocrem sorted it out, but adults can definitely find themselves with sore bottoms for several reasons!

You say that but if you remember when something similar happened during covid when sellers were doing this on basics, there was a call for those who did this to be banned from selling. Theres supply and demand and then there's theft and abuse of selling power.

thinktwice36 · 29/01/2025 13:56

Doesn’t matter what it is, if someone will pay it, its up to them. Just because it’s a baby item shouldn’t mean that the cheeky fuckers on Vinted should stop being cheeky fuckers, just don’t buy from them if it isn’t a price you want to pay.

not that deep.

genesis92 · 29/01/2025 14:00

I really think sudacrem is just as good tbh.
And regarding vinted...it's called capitalism. It's supply and demand, it's shit but just how it is

Chino999 · 29/01/2025 14:00

Hey OP, I have one you can have if you like. Only bother is I'm based in Ireland?

aster10 · 29/01/2025 14:04

I checked and I have 3 tubes of Metanium Nappy Rash Cream that together will make one tube probably (well, I think a bit less than one tube). I can pop them over in a large letter, I have lots of stamps, so no problem for me to just use 2-3 stamps and put them in the post. But - I’m probably going to be in trouble for that and I apologise to the asmins for that, please remove my comment and so on and so forth - a couple expired 7/24 and one expired 9/24. But… if that Eclipse Pharmace thing doesn’t work, happy to send them.

godmum56 · 29/01/2025 14:06

Sympathy OP but speaking pragmatically, you will need to find an alternative.

Sunshiiine · 29/01/2025 14:08

She’s a twat.

personally I found it shit, and switching nappy brands helped :)

pinkwaffles · 29/01/2025 14:10

It's shitty, but at the end of the day it's simply supply and demand. If someone will pay £50 why would she sell it to you for £5?

The truth is that this cream is not the only way to solve a baby's skin problems. There are multiple solutions even for very sensitive skin. It's not a necessity for anyone to have this specific cream and this specific brand. It's just not. If someone is struggling then they should go to the doctor.

If people are stupid enough to pay then greedy people will cash in, it's how the world works.

RobinEllacotStrike · 29/01/2025 14:12

"some mothers genuinely see as a necessity for their babies wellbeing."

If its been discontinuted then all these parents need to find an alternative asap. This cream can no longer be necessary for their baby's wellbeing as its no longer being made.

One tube on Vinted isn't going to make any difference to anyone.

Bamboozledbylife · 29/01/2025 14:15

Drapolene was my go to for nappy rash 7/8 yrs ago. Dare I say I found it better than the yellow gloop!
Good luck but yeah, I'd have been livid too.

User780 · 29/01/2025 14:20

I agree - not a luxury item, and it seems greedy to profit from desperation of others.

To add to the suggestions of alternatives, we use Bepanthen, which wasfirst recommended to me by my GP for my own skin problem. Works well as a barrier cream and to clear up redness in the nappy area and elsewhere.

QuestionAir · 29/01/2025 14:25

I don’t have anything helpful to say other than this was literally the only cream which worked for both of my children so it’s very disappointing to hear you can’t get it anymore as most of the others just didn’t work as well or as fast …….

Was going to say just this. My kids had very sensitive skin and this works wonders as a barrier cream.

Agentscullyandmulder · 29/01/2025 14:32

I remember using this on my daughter as a baby, I didn’t part it particularly good if I’m honest, I appreciate it works great for others. I recently had A&D cream for my tattoo, I think it’s similar to bepanthen and is meant to be used for babies bums. I’ve got a 5g sachet spare if anyone would like to try it

That70sHouse · 29/01/2025 14:33

Am I the only person who tried this cream because so many people have always sworn by it, but was disappointed and it didn't really seem to do anything?!

Depending on what's causing it, my alternatives have always been:

  • Vaseline
  • Sudocrem
  • Canesten - sometimes what looks like nappy rash is actually thrush
  • Changing nappy brands - if they get nappy rash very frequently then it might be the nappy irritating them. Eco brands tend to be less irritating IME

Exactly the same here, unfortunately did absolutely nothing for my daughter despite people keep telling me it was a miracle.
