Suspected scaphiod fracture

My son (11) had x rays yesterday which has resulted in a suspected fractured scaphoid. We are at the fracture clinic on Monday I just wondered whether I need to prepare him for the possibility of a cast? Or is it likely they will just keep him in a splint. He’s a bit of a worrier so just wanted to know peoples experience's. Thanks !

If it's scaphoid it'll be a cast and may even need an operation if it's displaced. Sorry. I was in my cast for six weeks.

I fractured my scaphoid in July and had a cast for 8 weeks.

Thank you, I’ll get him ready for it then just in case 😢

IME (3 times) if they suspect a scaphoid fracture then they cast it anyway for two weeks and then re x-ray to check. It often doesn't show clearly for several days, apparently. Twice mine was fractured and I had a cast for a further 4-6 weeks, the other time it wasn't and they put it in a split until it settled down.
I hope he's okay
