Invite fiasco - how to find graphic designer who has availability... tomorrow?

A friend was supposed to design our wedding invitations but let us down badly. The final product is basically un-usable and not at all what we discussed, worst of all he absolutely refuses to take any feedback; he is convinced that his first attempt is pure perfection. No matter how politely the suggestion is put, it's all, "no, you don't understand the concept/composition" or "it will look shit that way" - really frustrating. To make matters worse he was very late with them so we are now RIDICULOUSLY behind schedule. I know, our fault for not enforcing deadlines, but it's done now.

Basically need to order by tomorrow night/Saturday morning as going abroad in early Feb.

While I probably should have just used an online template, I simply couldn't find any I liked - none of them felt "right." I also had quite a strong vision for what I wanted (specific to my local culture) and felt it was important to have an invite I like as I want to use the same concept and visuals for on-the-day stationary.

Anyway, after a few days of Photoshop tutorials and playing around with various ideas, I've managed to create something I really like the vibe of and feels more "us" than the templates. I reckon I'm 80% of the way there, but it just doesn't look quite right yet - I could really use a skilled eye to help me put the finishing touches on it.

Ideally, I'd like to find a graphic designer who can sit down with me (virtually, I suppose) and tell me where I'm going wrong and how to take it up a notch. Potentially some guidance on execution if it requires anything beyond my skill level (highly likely, lol) but I don't envision the whole thing taking more than two or so hours - I'm looking for advice rather than someone to do the project themselves.

Obviously I am going to pay the person's hourly rate, but where to find them!? I don't know any graphic designers personally, have reached out to some local Facebook groups but would prefer to widen the search.

Help!!! And thank you!

Maybe Fiverr.com

@Singasongofsixpence24 thank you - I did have a quick look at Fiverr but the only people I can find who offer advice (as opposed to a full design service) have a very 'bitcoin bro' aesthetic... maybe I need to take another look though.

@Singasongofsixpence24 thank you - I did have a look on Fiverr but the only people offering advice (as opposed to a full design service) don't really have an aesthetic suited to wedding invitations. More of a flashy, shiny, web design type look. Maybe I need to look harder, though.

P.S. I promise my post that got hidden wasn't rude, I just used a word that must've triggered the algorithm - obviously not going to repeat it lol!

Can you share some examples if the style you want so we can suggest relevant potential sources only?

anotherbridezilla · 24/01/2025 02:20

@whathaveiforgotten good point - I'm going for a Wes Anderson aesthetic, so something a bit quirky but formal enough to keep both sets of parents happy.

I have used www.Upwork.com
I had a picture my dc had drawn that I wanted to turn into a digital logo, but also wanted it cleaned up. I had 8 replies within 6 hours and the lady I picked did an excellent job in just an hours worth of work.

@SeaToSki thank you - I had no idea about this, looks good!

Go take a look at Canva, there's ready made templates you can tweak to your liking.

anotherbridezilla · 24/01/2025 03:45

@SeaToSki already have a few replies including from one lady whose portfolio looks incredible - fingers crossed that we can come to an agreement! Thanks again, I'll report back.
