Hypnotherapy experiences?

This morning I downloaded an app for weight loss hypnotherapy. I tried it out of desperation as my binge eating is out of control and I'm worried I'm going to eat myself into an early grave.

To be honest I was very sceptical as I'm not very 'woo' and usually am very into science and evidence-based things. However, I was amazed!

I found it really easy to imagine what the woman was describing. Getting into that relaxed state was weirdly emotional (in a good way). It was like for the first time since I was a child I was aware that I AM my body rather than it being a completely separate and distant thing.

Afterwards I initially thought it hadn't worked as I immediately fancied some chocolate but I suddenly realised that I was able to just say no. It definitely wasn't a big magical feeling of change but it just felt like it was a decision I could make rather than feeling completely out of control like usual. I'm astounded. Obviously it's early days and I have a lot of weight to lose but I'm hopeful. I'm sat here now really aware of my stomach and how full it feels from my small breakfast, whereas normally I struggle to feel sensations of fullness in my body.

Anyone able to share their experiences. Have you tried it and did it work (for any issue not just weight loss)? Did you try with a hypnotherapist or just with a CD/app? On the reviews, some were saying it worked well but the effects wore off after they stopped doing listening for a while. This isn't necessarily an issue - if it works it works and if I had to listen to it forever I wouldn't mind too much.

However it brings up another question. I've now become really open-minded to it and have other issues that hypnotherapy is often suggested for (nail biting and a severe specific phobia) - if these also require continuous listening to a CD to "top up" the effects I worry I'd be spending half my day putting myself under hypnosis for my many issues for the rest of my life😅

I have also used them for weightloss. It's not a magic bullet but I do find it takes the edge off my cravings and helps me to get out of the mindless eating. I do find though that the times I most need it, I forget to use it.

Following - which app is it please?

I've used clearminds but I could understand why some people might not like his voice. I like the fact you can buy the file and then it's yours, no subscription and you can share them, so my mum and I share them between us.

I used in person hypnotherapy for my social anxiety. I’m still a bit anxious but nowhere near what I was before the sessions.

I've used hypnotherapy for weight loss, in person. I lost over 2st (I'm only short) to give me a bmi of 22. I've kept most of it off for 10 years though I do go back sometimes for top up sessions if it starts creeping on. I find it deeply relaxing as well as it resetting good habits and helping me stop lapsing into snacking or eating when I'm not really hungry. I think it was also effective as the therapist is very blunt and basically told me I was fat and ruining my nice hair, clothes, and make up with my fat body - which was true!

Thank you all for the replies. It's really interesting to hear and sounds like a lot of people have had good experiences!

Following - which app is it please?

It's called VGBHypnosis and the icon is a scale (like a bathroom scale) with the word wow on and the words virtual gastric band underneath.

I wouldn't necessarily recommend specifically this one though and would perhaps check reviews for different ones.

I kind of just quickly googled and went for the first one I saw get recommended a couple of times but the threads it was recommended on were very old.

The app itself is really outdated. A couple of the links (like to their Facebook or podcast) appear to be broken.

The actual hypnosis sessions play fine but the whole app looks like a gaudy 90s advert you'd get on the side of websites.

I do like the actual sessions and I find the woman quite engaging so will keep going with it but it does feel a bit like I've got something from a time capsule Grin
