The English Channel - or is it La Manche? Are there any parts of the world you think we should rename?

So Trump has renamed The Gulf of Mexico into The Gulf of America. I am not sure if other countries are going to follow - and who actually decides what places and areas of water should be called?

There's the English Channel. Or should we call it La Manche? The European Channel?

I'm going for Lancashire. And renaming it Not Yorkshire. Sorry, Lancashire folk.

Any places you want to officially rename. The world's your oyster!

They used to call the Channel the 'Narrow Seas'. I like that

DH refers to Kent as "practically in France"

He hasn't renamed it. He might think he can do it for the USA, but other countries don't have to blindly bow down to such a dick move

It’ll soon be renamed again, the Gulf of Gilead

He isn't demanding the world call it something different; he's directing the US federal government to call it that, which is entirely within his power.

The question is WHY is he doing it. The answer is that all of the paperwork placing legal restrictions on oil and gas drilling in the gulf refer to it as the Gulf of Mexico. Officially changing the name removes those restrictions.

Oooh that's interesting, I always called it la manche until I moved to the UK where everyone refers to it as the English Channel. I never thought of this! I mean obviously it registered because that's what I call it here, but more like a translated name in my head as opposed to having a meaning of ownership.

Isle of Man as Isle of People, as obviously the ‘and Man’ is excluding women

( obviously lighthearted).

Washington in Tyne and Wear comes under Sunderland District.
We should name it Washington D S.
Just so there’s no confusion for some Americans who have an appalling knowledge of geography.

Edited

Maybe Gateshead could be renamed by the people of Newcastle?

Or the Tyne Bridge could be called the Newcastle Bridge?

Controversially...
There's the Irish Sea and St.George's Channel. Plenty of other Saint Names are available....
