I won't try as an autistic person to explain all of the reviews.

I was hoping someone else has read the book.

I've read it and although I enjoyed it, it didn't really live up to the interesting setting and premise for me. The opportunity to investigate a female only society was a bit wasted I feel. Likewise the relationship between the villagers and the Sami, there is a lot of mutual distrust in good times, but the villagers then turn to Sami traditions when times are tough

I also didn't buy the romance, it felt to modern for the setting. Not because I don't believe in historical lesbian romances, but they would have had to be much more careful and slow paced imo! I think an intense female friendship might have been a more interesting storyline too

But generally well written and worth a read imo
