Been sharing a bottle a night

My DH and I both work and have a 4 year old. Since before Christmas we've shared a bottle of wine every single weeknight, and on weekends often more across the evening.

Tonight we are not drinking anything. I'm not sure why I'm posting but just been feeling bad (guilty and ashamed) and looking for solidarity I guess.

My husband and I got into that habit over Christmas, although it was more like a larger quantity by mid December. We've had 2 nights (Saturdays) of drinking since New Year's Eve. Which is sometimes a struggle but it's all entirely possible. Have a few nights off now and aim to share a nice bottle Saturday. Small goal posts at this stage.

No need to feel guilty at all, you went over the recommended units for a few weeks and now you're reining it in again. Been there! You'll soon be back in the habit of it not being a regular thing.

Thank you

You've recognised it's not a good thing and that's good. Cut it right back and replace with something else e.g. a box set, a nice non alcoholic drink, low cal snacks, low cal hot chocolate, a new hobby etc.

Thanks. A new habit sounds good! Box sets always come with wine here so I'll have to try something else

Good on you for keeping some days alcohol free.
I'd say if you can try and do it as little as possible. But binging is not great either. I've suffered really badly from alcohol in the past. But no reason not to enjoy it in moderation.
Maybe tomorrow you don't want a drink either? X

It's an easy habit to slip into OP.

We've not been drinking quite that much but decided after Christmas to really cut down the drinking we do at home - so rather than a total 'never drinking alcohol again!' we're only really drinking if we go to the pub at a weekend, or a friends house for dinner etc. Might be a good place to start?

It's an easy habit to fall into especially at this dark depressing time of the year. I am on the dry Jan bandwagon and I am starting to feel the benefits which is enough to encourage me to keep going. Stick with it OP you will feel so much better.

Thank you so much for the kind posts. Off to bed shortly and no drinking this evening so all good. It was easier once I got past the first hour or so after child's bedtime but to begin with I could feel my body craving a glass.

My friend and her husband share a litre of vodka every night. That's way worse than wine I'd imagine.
