Are you shrinking yet?

I used to be 5'10" at my tallest, around 23/24, now I'm late 40's and I am only just barely 5'9".
Ok, maybe five eight and three quarters
I was not ready for this, and thought I wouldn't get shorter until I was old, like 70+
Is this when it happens?

And does it speed up?

Yep, its normal. Despite what I told my dd, you do not become Mrs Pepperpot.

I'm 50 and have not shrunk at all yet. Believe me, I've been checking! I think late 40s is way too early for that. OP, you should get yourself checked for osteoporosis, because you should not have lost more than an inch of height before 50. Early onset osteoporosis would be a cause, and if you have that, it's fixable but very important to get treatment. Do go to your GP and get referred for a DEXA scan.

Yes I started shrinking in my late 40s, but I did have breast cancer then. I'm 56 now, I used to be 5ft 5, I'm now 5ft 3. Very annoying!

I haven’t actually checked my height recently (am also 5’10) but I’d agree with @ChicLilacSeal, I would get checked out. A friend started getting a rounded back at the same age and it turned out to be osteoporosis.

At 66 I'm still 5'7" .

I agree with a PP that you should get this investigated.

RedRiverShore5 · 21/01/2025 07:06

I hope to, I'm 66 and unfortunately still 5'10, I was hoping clothes buying might become easier as I got older.

Yes. I used to be 5'51/2
5 years ago I was weighed and measured at GP and am 5'4
I was 55 then, now 60
I had heard it happens, but assumed I would be into my 70's.
I have a petite frame too
