Does anyone else hate just eat?!

Ordered from five guys about 5pm yesterday. I watched the driver go to loads of different addresses before ours, not shocked to expect the food not to be hot when it comes but at least warm. It was stone cold when it arrived. Cold burgers ! And fries, fries not the end of the world as just bunged them in the air fryer but the burgers were disgusting. I heated up the patties but the bun and everything else was still cold, so pissed off.
So I put in a request for a refund, I received an email back saying they don't refund for cold food. But as a "gesture of goodwill" gave me £8.96 back! I spent £50 including delivery for that food.
I am so so annoyed, surely that's just daylight robbery?!
How can they get away with this ?

I love it. Order every week and never had a problem. just order direct from the place next time. I’ve heard Just Eat are really bad at refunds

I might bring it up with five guys and see if they can do anything.
It's a lot of money to lose. It was a treat for my ds too so it's really disappointing. The burgers are amazing when actually edible !

Are you in a quieter area by any chance ?

I love JE. I've never had a problem with them at all & I've used quite a variety of places on their app

idontthinksomate · 20/01/2025 07:56

Well maybe it's just my area they're shocking then ! I just think it's outrageous they can say that, £50 is alot of money to me, and i might aswell have put it down the drain.

We don't get JustEat here but we do have z
FoodHub which are great. Every order we get is hot and as it should be.

Ordering direct from the local chippy often leads to cold food though.

ClementinePancakes · 20/01/2025 08:04

I hate the idea of it, my food in a grubby bag (they always look absolutely filthy) bouncing around on someone’s back on a bike, squashed and jostling against everyone else’s different takeaways, all the smells mingling, with just a paper bag for protection. You couldn’t pay me enough money to eat it!

I’d go in person or go without.

TheChippendenSpook · 20/01/2025 08:05

I think it's down to the delivery driver. I watch London Eats on YouTube and he delivers food for people.

He always makes sure he only picks up one order at a time for people if they've ordered hot food so it arrives nice and hot for them. He also can't stand delivery drivers who don't use insulated food bags. Some of them don't care and will try and make as much money as they can, even if it means they deliver cold food.

DontNeedAnyMoreClothes · 20/01/2025 08:07

I've never had a problem with Just Eat. But the one time we used Uber Eats was a complete disaster! The food never arrived. I contacted Uber Eats who said they hadn't been able to contact me and had left it outside (no one had rung the doorbell and I had no missed calls). They sent me a photo of a bag on a driveway. Not my drive. DH walked up the road and couldn't locate the bag or the pictured drive. Uber Eats refused to refund on the basis that they'd "tried to contact" me, and "delivered the food".

Fortunately I managed to get a refund from PayPal in the end.

Damnloginpopup · 20/01/2025 08:20

I have never and will never use them. Pay a premium for delayed food that's hung around going limp and cold while the food place loses 14%+vat+50p and put all their (and therefore others) prices up accordingly? No thanks.

If I'm paying for prepared food I'm eating it fresh. I'm not being ripped off or lazy.

MyNamesGaryAndImAddictedToChips · 20/01/2025 08:21

Just Eat are pretty awful here. I refuse to use them, I either collect or order direct from a couple of places.

The kids (they are adults living at home) use them sometimes but I refuse to let them order from McDonalds on there since the time their order didn't turn up twice in a row and we went to collect it instead. Our local McDonalds is on a business park in the centre of a gyratory system and literally the only thing in this park are food outlets. It's known locally as Fatty Island, or just Fattys. 😂

I suppose it's not too surprising then that this seems to be where all the delivery drivers congregate for a mothers meeting in the carpark. It took us ages to get served in McDonalds. When we got there, there were racks of orders in paper bags just sitting there. Occasionally a staff member would come and call out another order number, nobody would come forward and it would be added to the ones already on the racks. And there they stayed till we eventually left. We had to have been there half an hour.

No but I only get things that travel well or can be reheated. Not burgers. Pizza is good as can be slid into an oven for a few minutes, curry etc fine. If I ordered burgers I know I’d be disappointed.

Reheat? Fuck that, just stick a pizza in the oven to begin with.

BlondeMamaToBe · 20/01/2025 08:27

I don’t know why anyone would still order through the apps. The food is guaranteed to be cold or half of it missing.

Well no because the point is I don’t have a pizza to do it with if I’m ordering a take away, least of all a decent sourdough one with buffalo mozerella, and they hold up very well with a few min of heat. If I wanted to cook a supermarket pizza I would do that.

daffodilandtulip · 20/01/2025 08:32

I usually order direct but had a good voucher the other day so used Just Eat. The guy delivering it told me they're a rip off and to make sure I just use their website next time 😂

Kianai · 20/01/2025 08:34

Stopped bothering with them a while ago, either food items were missing, or spilt/damaged.

JollyHostess101 · 20/01/2025 08:35

Husband won't order form just eat as he's been on the otherside as a restaurant manager and knows how many drops a driver might have in one go so won't risk being a later drop off as food will be cold!

We were in London too so not just quiet areas!!

JasmineTea11 · 20/01/2025 08:36

It's your money but £50?!?!
You could have made wagu beef burgers for that!

I'm constantly amazed at what people spend on takeaways, whist also complaining about the COL (not you necessarily OP)

pintsizeprincess · 20/01/2025 08:38

I never used to have a problem with just eat but just lately the orders seem to have one or two items missing or are stone cold. It's expensive enough as it is without having to worry that everything you ordered will turn up. We just tend to use it for ordering pizza on now as it can be reheated and there are less items to go missing!

idontthinksomate · 20/01/2025 08:48

I am deleting the app once I've finished with taking this complaint further.
As pp have stated, the prices are bloody extortionate as it is, they must be making such a profit !
I'm going to really dig my heels in though with this as I think £8.96 is a slap in the face.
My ds is autistic so has his fave foods and he loved five guys last time we went, he was gutted.

TheFormidableMrsC · 20/01/2025 08:48

I stopped using Just Eat because of late deliveries and the inflated prices. It's cheaper to order direct. A lot of the takeaway places local to me offer a 15% discount if you collect so I'd rather have the minor inconvenience and do that.

Cansomeone · 20/01/2025 09:08

It depends on the rider, some take on far too many orders to be able to feasibly deliver them in time.

Haveaconcern · 20/01/2025 09:22

I hate them!! I’m also trying to get money back and it’s very hard to escalate a complaint!

Recently I was on justeat but I hadn’t completed an order - was looking at it and discussing it with someone and never even entered the 3 digit card security code required (not my card but the person I was with, so I didn’t even know it!). Then we just clicked to another window…..

then the ‘order’ arrived!! I told the driver I hadn’t ordered it but he said not to worry and if I gave my phone number he’d make a record and sort it out. Actually he just confirmed the order without me realising. Wouldn’t take it back but said not to worry. My complaint is now being ignored/refused even though I have doorbell footage of the whole discussion!! They say I confirmed it by giving my number.

And it makes me wary re card security. It seems like bank retracted the funds and they were taken again!! Or something like that - I’m trying to dig into what has happened but it’s like a wall of black-mirror mechanisms….

it’s coming to a point where my time is worth more than this, however I am going to complain to ombudsman. I feel like panorama should do an expose on them - when you search on Reddit lots of people have similar cases to you OP or even orders which never arrive.

Anusername · 11/02/2025 19:26

We have been using justeat for a while but my latest experience showed that they can’t be trusted. Orders are either extremely late, or with missing items. Pity refund and sometimes nothing. I’ve accepted cold food but I paid for items that have never arrived. That doesn’t make any sense. Then I found trustpilot shows 1 star review which aligns with their quality of service. Not going to use them again.
