Kitchen sink with built-in drainer behind??

The strip of worktop behind our kitchen sink has gone rotten after constantly getting wet for years. I'd like to replace the sink with one that sits flush to the wall and has a built-in drainer behind it so any water just drains into the sink instead of getting stuck behind the sink.

Does such a sink exist?? Any recommendations would be great!

I don’t know of a sink like that, good idea though. Is the back of your sink up against a window? Most are if so, could you not replace the window sill (preferably in a non-rot material say marble) then bring the front edge of the sill right up to the back of the sink, silicone the joint, now you have a situation where water can’t sit at the back of the sink it has to drain back into the sink.

Google 'sink splash guard' works perfectly for under worktop sinks. That's probably your best bet to avoid the sink problem, i can't stand above counter sinks now

@Slawit I love your phrasing there 😁

Thanks.

I was looking for an all in one sink that will slot into the space taken by the current sink. I don't think an under-counter sink will work.

I want to keep the windowsill as it is - it's tiled.

I just want to replace the sink and cut out the rotten worktop...

@BellissimoGecko do you mean something like this? To just sit atop a whole double base unit? I seem to remember all sinks being like this until the fashion for sunken ones came in…and I’m pretty sure you can get them a lot cheaper

Yes, I think so, @TwoBigNoisyBoys . But that is more than I'd hoped to spend.

I guess one option would be to cut out the rotten worktop and replace it then add a sink splashback (like the one in the pic) on top of the worktop.

I can't be arsed redoing the whole kitchen...

@BellissimoGecko yeah, that’s very pricey option, I agree! However, it was the first image that came up on a google search so I’m confident you’d find one much for affordable 😊

Apparently they’re called ‘lay on’ sinks and Amazon have them for a much more reasonable price!!

What size base unit are you trayinb to work with?

BellissimoGecko · 19/01/2025 18:15

The lay-on sinks look good! Need to measure my current sink and see if it will work.

Do you think it's possible to cut the damaged worktop and then add a baton to join the remaining worktop, to keep it stable?
