Netflix did something weird

Earlier today I went on netflix andy account came up as a child's account. It was so so weird.

I changed my password and logged out of everything and back in. Gone back to normal now.

It wasn't like someone else had been watching though. Nothing on continue watching etc.

This happened to anyone else?

What does account came up as a child’s account mean?

Artyblartfast · 18/01/2025 18:50

I mean all my usual stuff was gone and all the suggestions were kids shows. Like when you log in on your child's profile, you see grizzy and the lemmings and rugrats and all those things suggested.

My niece has a children's log in on our netflix account. She can then freely scroll programs without turning on anything inappropriate. It would have just shown the OP loads of cartoons and kids shows. Probably just a glitch OP.

There’s a whole kids section when you open the app, you probably just clicked that without realising or there was a glitch and it opened. Doesn’t sound weird tbh.

Artyblartfast · 19/01/2025 10:00

I didn't click on the wrong one. I reopened my own profile a few times. It seemed to have replaced my stuff with the children's one. Anyway it reset after password change and log out and in fully. It was odd to me anyway. Just don't get how it happened.

This happened to me with Disney+. My login details had been sold online and someone else had made a profile on it. I closed the account as it happened more than once, even with password changes.

Omg. That's concerning 😟

I've changed the password and the email address in the account. I'll keep an eye on it.

Yep! To this day I still get emails from Disney+ to reconfirm my password or reopen my account, where someone is clearly trying the “forgot password” link or similar. My email address is very much entangled in the dark web 😫

This is what I worry about. I might get a fresh email address for accounts. I have one main one for important stuff that I don't use for much at all and then one that is super old. It worries me about that one as so much relies on it. Life admin is a nightmare isn't it!

I agree with a PP someone has got your log in details. Run your email through have I been pwned.

Wendysfriend · 19/01/2025 11:36

Do you mean the majority of the programmes advertised were children's? DD watched Peppa on my account one time and the whole algorithm changed to children's stuff also when I watched squid game everything changed to Asian programmes

Artyblartfast · 19/01/2025 11:37

Thanks. I think that email address has been flagged via Google password manager. Problem I don't understand is when you have signed up years ago and don't know how to find where to login and change. One was school photos. They want a login with unique photo identification not a general login. Confused

No. I mean it appeared as if I had logged in to a child's profile but it was mine.

I once logged in to see that a new profile had been set up for someone called Miguel, and my Netflix had been accessed in Mexico. Miguel seemed to have been up throughout the night watching box sets with Spanish subtitles on. He had quite good taste and I felt almost guilty for not sharing with him after that 😂

BigcatLittlecat · 19/01/2025 11:40

We had a nightmare with Netflix. Obviously my account had been sold and it kept turning spanish with spanish names watching! The email address changed as well. I contacted Netflix online and they were brilliant! It happened 3 times, so changed all my details in the end. Touch wood it's been okay since!

@Wendysfriend except I definitely didn't. I went in about 4 times on my own profile and kept getting same thing until I logged out and changed account info.

My netflix account has been breached 3 times!
I ended up setting up a different email account just for it.

This happened to my cousin multiple times. He's in IT and it stopped when he started using a very complex password... Eg instead of Cupcake12! He used xcbHkuDf6t4hvdKol096

Wow. Thanks. Maybe I'll have to go that way 😱

Mine was hacked once, i think i saw an email
Saying someone had logged in at x location which was in another country
I tried to log in and was locked out
I rang Netflix which was in Florida from memory , they could see various log ins at different countries so they changed my password so I could log in
My hacker had his own name up and I could see what he was watching.
In my settings I could see the different log ins from Europe to Africa to Asia where it had probably been sold. No issues since but take a look at settings and last logged in

Artyblartfast · 19/01/2025 20:11

Thanks @FredaFox . Just had a look and all devices are mine.
