I've just been to the Polish shop & bought some E. Wedel dark chocolate with cherry & almond filling. We've just opened it now & OMG it's SOOOOO good!

Dh also bought a Wawel brand dark chocolate with raspberry filling which is also delicious but not quite as good as the other.

We had coffee & cake in the E Wedel shop / cafe in Krakow & i remember being v impressed by the hot chocolates, & the cakes.

I hasn't been in the shop in about 18mths but I'll def be stocking up more

Dh got honey beer & lays paprika & we got 2 big jars of pickles. A great haul 👌

Love Polish food!

VanWeezer · 17/01/2025 18:24

We've just discovered our local Eastern European shop. I love it.

Bought pickles, chocolate, a lovely cherry and apple drink, pierogis (sp), weird crisps. So many good things!

We have planned to make a monthly visit. It's just like going to the supermarket on holiday.

I'll keep an eye out for those chocolates!

This is like my dream Friday night snack haul. Can you attach a pic of the cherry and almond chocolate please and I can tell my dp to look out for it?

Polish wafer biscuits - would recommend.
Their sausage is also bloody good.

Chocolatebuttonanyone · 17/01/2025 18:36

Ooh the E wedel coconut chocolate is delicious too. More of a coconut paste inside rather than strands of coconut like a bounty.
I really want to find the coffee version.

cleo333 · 17/01/2025 18:41

I would like to see a picture too please

SmeII · 17/01/2025 18:44

I’m visiting Krakow in March. Can’t wait!

BriceNobeslovesMurielHeslop · 17/01/2025 18:45

Love Polish food! Pierogi, bigos, potato pancakes, mizeria, bring it all over here to me please.
I used to love going to my nearby Polish supermarket. I’ve moved and miss it- I might do a pilgrimage and bring home a big bag of goodies.

stringsoup · 17/01/2025 18:55

I googled the chocolate but could only find bars with cherry

  • no almonds 😓
HereComesEverybody · 17/01/2025 18:57

This is the one! Highly recommend.
For anyone visiting Krakow make sure to visit the shop / cafe on the main square.
We had hot chocolate with rum & I'm still thinking about it about 5 years later

Pickled vine tomatoes are another Polish goody!!

HereComesEverybody · 17/01/2025 19:27

Sorry the picture didn't load first time.

There's a white paste which we thought was marzipan - perhaps not. Either way it's delicious 😋

I’m not sure what they are called but I love those polish fruity, squishy sweets that contain random blue men!

CraftyNavySeal · 17/01/2025 19:36

You can buy that in most supermarkets in London. We also buy chocolate covered quark bars, mustard ketchup and mayo. Cheaper than the British brands and nicer!

Polish cherry Jaffa cakes are good but you can buy branded ones in that flavour now as well.

Also love the polish section for Kinder Pingui, used to get these in Ireland all the time but never in England.

HereComesEverybody · 17/01/2025 20:03

That's good to know @CraftyNavySeal

Sadly I'm not in London & it's not in all the supermarkets here so it's still a treat to get it in the Polish shop for us

I also love the raspberry jaffa cakes but forgot to get them today

I also forgot the beer mustard in the glass tankard which we all loved so I think a return visit is on the cards soon!

I am intrigued and would love to know what these are called!

CuriousRunner · 17/01/2025 21:17

Not highbrow choc by any means...but there's a Jaffa cake equivalent but with raspberry jelly instead of orange! ❤️

TafetaRustle · 17/01/2025 21:36

Thanks op is there palm oil in it... Good thread I wonder what else is good at a polish deli?.

newbie202020 · 17/01/2025 21:40

Keffir in the Eastern European section of bigger supermarkets is much better and cheaper than the stuff you get next to the milk (much funkier smelling and chunky bits in!). My husband is of Polish heritage and cooks Polish food frequently- I love it and is really underrated in the UK.

TafetaRustle · 18/01/2025 08:38

@newbie202020 can you recommend a smoked sausage to go into a cabbage style winter stew please

Kielbasa sausages are what you need. The supermarket ones all seem to awful additives in. We have a local posh butchers which does Polish Smoked sausages or suggest you like to buy online. My husband said the Hairy Bikers bigos stew was the best one he's found so far!

TafetaRustle · 18/01/2025 09:10

@newbie202020 thank you

xmaspomanon · 18/01/2025 09:14

Is there milk in it?

AtlasPine · 18/01/2025 09:25

We are lucky enough to have an awesome Polish shop round the corner. Agree the kefir is a fraction of the price of the supermarket big brands and much less processed. Cream cheese/cottage cheese is a bit of a lucky dip though unless someone has time to explain what each one actually is eg low fat, full cream etc!

I love their crackers, beer sticks, smoked ham and sausage. Also the pre-made dumplings. I will have to try that chocolate now!

Agree about Hairy Bikers, it’s delicious. I once had a professional chef complement how much depth of flavour it has - I would like to say that has nothing to do with my cooking skills. It’s a little bit of a faff (they recommend bring to the boil for an hour every day for three days) but it’s so
worth it.
